             NEWSLETTER TERM 4 WEEK 1: Thursday 15 October 2020
All newsletters are also available on the school website under Parent Information.
The school roll is currently 216 children.

                                PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

OUT OF ZONE ENROLMENTS FOR 2021
The school is now taking enrolments for out of zone students for 2021. If you have friends who you
think might be interested, please let them know. Enrolment forms can be found on the school
website. Out of zone enrolments will close on December 1. If we have more applicants than the
places available, then we will hold a ballot to create a waiting list.
Priorities for selecting out of zone students are as follows:

   • First priority is given to students who have been accepted for enrolment in a special
       programme run by the school.
   • Second priority will be given to applicants who are siblings of current students.
   • Third priority will be given to applicants who are siblings of former students.
   • Fourth priority will be given to applicants who are children of former students.
   • Fifth priority will be given to applicants who are either children of board employees or
       children of board members.
   • Sixth priority will be given to all other applicants

These priorities and their order are set out in the Education and Training Act 2020.
We will also be placing an advertisement with the Waikato Times within the next week.

NOTIFICATION OF TREE REMOVAL
Unfortunately we need to remove another of our large trees from the front of the school. When the
tree by the pool split earlier in the year, we had an assessment done of the remaining large trees.
The large tree at the entrance to the school driveway was identified as showing signs of splitting
and the extent of the split was marked. Since that time the split has continued to grow
incrementally. The tree could last another year or more, however, in the interests of safety we
have begun the process for its removal and hope to have this completed before the end of the
year.

RINGS FOUND
Over the vacation we had some metal detectorists in the school. Some rings were found. If you
have lost a ring please provide us with a description of it. Thus will then be forwarded on to see if
there is a match with what was found.

                                     TUMUAKI TUARUA
Kia ora e te whanau,

Nau mai hoki mai to you all. It was so lovely to see our tamariki back at school on Monday. I was
especially touched by the beautiful wairua that was felt during our powhiri.

Term 4 is always an interesting time as we celebrate the LASTS of the special times happening at
Koromatua. This is the LAST powhiri for our Year 8 students. It is also the LAST powhiri for our
long standing tumuaki, Nigel Farthing.

KOROMATUA’S GOT TALENT FINAL SHOW - Friday 16th October 11:30am
We are finally able to celebrate our children and their wonderful talents at KGT's Finals Show
tomorrow. We look forward to sharing this special time with the school and whanau of our
contestants. Mauri Ora!
CAMP NGARUAWAHIA - Wednesday 21st October - Friday 23rd October
Lots of excited tamariki from Rooms 8 & 9 are waiting to go on camp next week. They are in for a
great time away with our teachers and friends. We are very grateful to those parents who are able
to help on this camp and our kaiako who have planned for this event. Karawhiua!
CAMP RAGLAN - Wednesday 28th - Friday 30th October
Our tuakana students will be going on their own camp to Raglan and they are in for an exciting
time as well. We are very thankful to the parents who are able to help on this camp too. A big
thanks to their kaiako who have planned for this event as well. Karawhiua!
THANK YOU KOROMATUA BOARD OF TRUSTEES
We would like to express our sincere thanks to Stuart Cassidy and our BOT for the very generous
subsidy that has been given to each student who is attending camp this year. Just this past week
our BOT have donated $50 per student for their camp fees. We appreciate their financial support
to help alleviate the pressure that many of our families have felt, especially when so many of our
whanau have several children wanting to attend.

We have a very special school because our tumuaki, kaiako, kaimahi, tamariki and whanau make
it special.

Nga mihinui,
Whaea Rose Nin
