THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK Respect BELMONT SCHOOL NEWS 24th May 2019 Kwik Cricket competition On a bright sunny morning, the Ibexes tutor group went off to take part in a SEN Kwik Cricket competition in Cheltenham. The group played against 3 other schools and played brilliantly. Great teamwork and enthusiasm, some great shots and bowling. The team qualified for the SEN finals day in June. We are all looking forward to the day and hopefully good weather. Mrs Greenwood and Mr Freeman Trips and Visits As the Visits Co-ordinator I have to look at all the trips that teachers are arranging for our pupils. This summer term is full of exciting things to do and places to go. Year 8 and Year 10 have both been to Shropshire in May to an Activity Centre at Condover Hall. Some pupils will be singing in the SEN Choir at the Bacon Theatre in June. Year 7, the Elephants and Foxes will go to the Science Festival after Half Term to see 'The Science of Roald Dahl'. The leavers in Year 11 are looking forward to their trip to Drayton Manor at the end of June. There is a Duke of Edinburgh expedition for Year 10 at the end of June, working towards their Bronze Award, where they have to camp overnight and cook their own meals. This is always a full term! Staff Profile - Ms K Price Class Teacher What do I like best about the school? “Working with the children and teaching them new things. Having a great staff team to work alongside. Knowing that no two days are the same! Working at Belmont is fantastic!” One of my best moments? More an embarrassing moment - Coming last in the staff sports day race! However, it’s the taking part that counts. Interventions As we move forward into the final term we continue to look at more interventions we offer here at Belmont - what they are about and how we use them in our school. Drawing and Talking is a child-centred therapy focusing on prevention, early intervention and recovery of mental health issues. A therapeutic intervention, such as Drawing and Talking can help children and young people who may have suffered trauma, witnessed domestic abuse or suffer from anxiety and stress amongst others. Relax Kids offers children and young people self-regulation and resilience techniques with a range of books and sessions. A Relax Kids session includes warm up and movement, fun drama-based games, relaxing mindfulness games, stretching and breathing exercises, massage, affirmations and visualisations. We take children from a high energy to a low energy and encourage them to relax while developing their creativity and imagination. The new royal baby is here and it’s a boy! Our Key Stage 3 pupils were pleased to hear of the arrival of the royal baby and created a card for the Duke & Duchess of Sussex to celebrate the birth of their son Archie. Congratulation to our attendance winners! Class Dolphins and Busy Bees are the attendance winners this term with an amazing attendance of 98 %
Attractions for ASD children A wonderful mum of one of our ASD children has created a website that reviews attractions and helps other families. It has lots of information on Gloucestershire activities. Details about ‘Hard Days Out’ Made Easy can be found on the website www.harddaysout.com ‘Our primary focus is to support families and individuals who have additional needs to make their day out easier by reviewing venues and giving them tips and tricks to make days out easier. We have primarily focused within the South West which is where our team has the most experience. There are so many days out review based websites but none specifically supporting individuals with additional needs. We have a team of reviewers who either work or have personal experiences with SEND individuals. The second element is working with venues to support and encourage more inclusivity and accessibility for their customers through training resources, training and plans. We have worked with Dobbie’s garden centre, Everyone Active Leisure, Cotswold Farm Park (Adams Farm) and the National Trust. Thank you for taking the time to read all of this and let me know if you would like any more detail.’ Vic Buchalik F@B - Family Funday 2019 – Saturday 15 June – 11am to 2pm at Belmont School Parking … layout … staffing … tables … prizes … BBQ …. The Funday is all about providing a great day out for the Belmont families, friends and local residents. We have Shooting Stars Circus running FREE circus skills sessions, plenty of delicious food, loads of FREE activities and games, a truly F@Bulous raffle with over 30 wonderful prizes, and of course Mr Day and his DJ dec’s too. The Funday needs YOU! Please make a date to come along and enjoy the event. Last year we had so many smiling faces and great feedback on a happy, friendly Funday. We have worked hard all year to make this Funday even better. Join us from 11am, bring your friends and please … bring the SUNSHINE too! Raffle Tickets You should have all received two books of raffle tickets to sell to family and friends. Jan Tee, Governor and founding F@B member, is the world’s best raffle prize organiser and I think you’ll agree that this year’s prizes are amazing. If you can sell more than 2 books please ask at Reception, we have plenty available. Raffle will be drawn towards the end of the Funday. Can you be F@B-ulous? We need more F@B members to take forward this fantastic PTA from September 2019. We have built it up over the last 4 years and there is now so much enthusiasm to raise thousands of pounds each year for Belmont School. As children move on, however, we need new parents / carers who are willing to join F@B. If you’d like to get involved do contact us at thefabpta@gmail.com or leave a message at Reception or catch me in school on a Friday afternoon. Hope to meet you soon!
