Summer One 2020 – The Home Learning Edition Author Spotlight The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse Charlie Mackesy Waterstone’s 2019 book of the year The Boy, The Mole, The Fox and The Horse is a book full of kindness and hope. Cartoonist Charlie Mackesy’s inspirational paintings tell the story of four animals and their unique friendship. Every page is filled with kindness, compassion and understanding, conveying an essential message for our time and making it a wonderful book to share with those you love. Reading Challenge Shout Outs A huge well done to the children who have started to complete Courtwood’s Alphabet Reading Challenge. We have loved seeing all the photos.
Adults have you tried…? We understand that life is a bit different at the moment however reading can provide a wonderful escape for children and adults alike! Here are a few ways to encourage your child to read at home… Have a book themed day – Make reading fun by picking your child’s favourite book and planning the day around it. Can they dress up as their favourite character? Or make and eat some book themed treats? Acting out a favourite book – Create a stage, dress up, make some puppets or props and help your child bring their favourite story to life. Reading Remotely – We know lots of our children are missing spending time with their family and friends. Is there a way they could share a still share a story together over using the powers of technology? EYFS and KS1: Here are some fun ways to help your child learn the to read their year groups’ common exception/tricky words. Ask your child’s teacher for a list of their words.
