INNER WHEEL CLUB OF OREWA & WHANGAPARAOA July 2018 Welcome - to a new Inner Wheel year and a slightly new look Bulletin ! There was no way I could compete with an award winner Editor, namely Catherine, so I decided on a few changes. I hope it works out ok ! It was such a pity Catherine was unable to be at the AGM to receive the thanks from the members for her hard work as From the Editor’s Desk Editor in the past 3 years, so I will thank her here on your behalf, for keeping us so well informed and entertained. Judy had presented her with some roses earlier in the day so she would know we were thinking of her. A very special thank you also to those who have retired from Committee roles. Your hard work and support has been much appreciated by all the members. Judy gave us an excellent year as President for 2017/18 and now ….. Our new year brings us a new President— We are delighted to have Jan Murphy as our President for 2018/2019 and we look forward to enjoying our IW year under her leadership. Jan quickly settled into the “hot seat” to close the meeting and then members enjoyed a most delicious chocolate cake and wine - what an excellent way to start a new year ! Nancy got a lovely surprise at the start of our meeting, she had just lit the Candle of Friendship when two friends appeared ! They were Gwenda Holster-Dowler and Sandra Paton from Plunket and they were there to make a presentation to Nancy for her 30 years work with the Charity. The certificate read “Awarded in recognition of your valuable contribution to Waitemata Royal New Zealand Plunket Society” Sandra, who is a Community Support Co-Ordinator, gave a brief outline of the Plunket Society’s work and how Nancy (and Brian) had worked tirelessly to support its work in the area. Many Congratulations from us all Nancy
One of President Jan’s first tasks was to present the Mary Wilson Rose Brooch to this year’s Honoured Active Member, Margaret Mullan. This brooch is special to our Club, it was donated in memory of a founder member of our Club, Mary Wilson. Her husband found it amongst her things & gave to the Club to be awarded each year to a special member, in remembrance of Mary’s active membership. At the July meeting further details will be given & car pooling discussed. Please try to decide before the July meeting if you will be coming so arrangements can be made.
Nancy & Lynda gave an interesting talk at the AGM on the 7th Int. Inner Wheel Convention they attended in Melbourne. Lynda gave us a taste of the International flavour of everyone who attended while Nancy explained the business sessions and how it impacted on our Club. It is so good to be reminded of how we are part of such a large and powerful organisation that is world wide. Inner Wheel promotes true friendship, encourages the ideals of personal service and fosters international understanding Our ISO Jan R can be seen here enjoying IW Friendship with some members of the IW Club of Omagh, Ireland, during her recent visit there. Janet Howard is holding the NZ IW magazine that Jan took over, with some District Postcards. Next to Janet is the Club President Mavis Jardine and on the left is Margaret Mitchell, their Treasurer. The Toilet Bag Sewing Bees went well during June. One group meet at Margaret M’s and one at Val’s in Warkworth. Thank you to both hosts for letting us take over your homes. We did so well we now have enough completed bags. The next Toilet Bag gathering will be on Thursday 19th July , this will be to fill them with the items collected. The items are being counted and soon there will be a request sent out to members for the things we need to complete them all.
Duty Roster: As the August meeting is part of our trip out there will be no allocated duties to members but it would be a huge help to Margaret W if 3 of you would volunteer to assist with lunch and washing up ! Please let Jennifer H. know at the July meeting The September rota will be in the next Bulletin - don’t forget to check if it includes you There will be no duties for the October meeting as we shall be dining out ! If you are on supper duty please discuss with the other supper duty person as to who brings what, you will need a bottle of milk, some tea towels and a packet of biscuits each. There is a box in the IW cupboard that has tea, coffee, sugar etc in—please advise the President if something needs replacing. It would be good if the Club Officers and Speaker could be served first, a list in the box has what they prefer. Huggers and Greeters : Please be near the front door to greet everyone as they arrive.
