Our ethos and “You have cherished, challenged, taught my boys values self respect and how to aspire to great things” De Warenne Academy is an exciting place to learn. We are a close- knit community and we pride ourselves on knowing our students well and doing our utmost to ensure everyone fulfils their true potential. We aim to ensure that our students can learn in a safe and supportive environment, where everyone values academic achievement and has a positive attitude to learning. As a result of our journey of continuous improvement, our students have achieved the “best ever GCSE results” for five consecutive years now and we continue to go from strength to strength. We offer a broad range of academic, technical and vocational subjects to all our students and deliver a rich and varied personal development curriculum. We strongly encourage our students to take part in enrichment activities in order to discover all their strengths and talents. We also regularly organise whole school events and educational visits so that our students have the experience of learning beyond the classroom. We believe in rewarding students for good behaviour and achievement and run a number of celebration events throughout the year for each year group. Ultimately, we understand that our students are most successful when they feel happy, valued, challenged and supported to achieve their very best. Our dedicated and talented teachers and support staff are committed to ensuring the best possible outcomes for every child in our care. Students in the Class of 2021 worked hard in very challenging circumstances, to achieve a total of 48 grade 9s or Distinction “The progress of our students is better than any other local stars across a range of subjects including English, maths, science, geography, history, art, construction, hospitality and catering, performing arts, sport studies and health and social care. Overall, 67% of students gained a grade 4 in English and maths and 43% achieved a grade 5, surpassing the results from last year and being the “best ever school” results” for the fifth consecutive year. - School performance tables 19/20

We have an extensive tutor time programme when we learn about local and global issues with a focus on improving reading, writing and oracy. We have assembly every week and also welcome visiting speakers into the academy. Our careers and enterprise education offer is award-winning and we regularly work with visitors from a variety of professional backgrounds.
Pastoral Support “The Principal is We believe that the personal welfare of each student is crucial, as it is only when they feel happy and safe in their environment that they uncompromising in her quest can reach their full potential. Each child joins a tutor group with other students in the same year. In addition, we run a Year 7 Experiences programme, offering pupils the chance to have music tuition, visit the theatre and take part in a trip to the Yorkshire Sculpture park.
