Return to School What a strange week we had last week but our staff, students and families continue to work together to sup- port student wellbeing and continue learning. The best part of each remote learning is always welcoming stu- dents back to school – seeing their smiling faces and listening to the chatter as they enter the yard. Happy, Healthy Kids and Routines As we returned to school on Tuesday, some families mentioned it has been really tricky to keep routines going and regular bedtimes. Even when students are learning from home, it is important that families monitor the use of technology and ensure there are rules and expectations around devices. We have had students very tired in class after staying up late and unable to focus on their learning. Having rules like no technology after 8pm, al- lows students to read a book to unwind, and hopefully have a restful night’s sleep. P-2 Frozen Excursion – Wednesday August 18th Due to the current restrictions, Frozen performances are on hold. We are awaiting correspondence from Her Majesty’s Theatre and will let you know as soon as we hear anything. Grade 5/6 Camp – Malmsbury With the restrictions in Melbourne being extended, the school made the decision to change the 5/6 camp from Melbourne to Malmsbury. To do this the camp will be held next Wednesday 18th to Friday 20th August. Students will travel by bus to the camp which is located in the bush. Malmsbury has a range of outdoor activities which are supervised by qualified outdoor education instructors to high safety standards. It is run by the same organisation as the Melbourne Camp – Doxa so it will be the same cost and we can use the same documents. We just need a new permission form signed. These went home yesterday. Please contact the office if you didn’t get one. Students need to bring a drink bottle and lunch for the first day. Parent/Carer Opinion Survey Letters have been handed to families to complete the Department of Education Parent Opinion Survey. We are hoping you can find 20 minutes to complete the survey to help inform future school planning. Father’s Day Stall Our next fundraiser will be our first ever Father’s Day gift stall. Father’s Day is Sunday 5th September. The week prior to this we will run a stall for students to pick a gift for the special male (dad, grandpa, uncle, brother or carer) in their life. We are seeking donations for our stall. These may include soap, mug, reusable keep coffee mugs, glass, chocolates, plants, pots, socks, slippers, bbq tools, apron, recipe books, cap, beanie, key ring, drink holder, game, playing cards, photo frame etc). Students can give donations can to class teachers or take to the office. Depending on the number gifts, we hope to offer every student an opportunity to buy a gift. Then if there are spares, students may get additional gifts. To know how many gifts we need, we are asking families to complete the Father’s Day note and return to school with the money ($5 per gift) by Friday 27th August. Thanks to all families who have already donated!
In the art room Grade prep started working on an eye-popping vase collage. These have been glued to black paper and I look forward to seeing the preps back in the art room to add finishing touches to their creations. Grade 1-4 have been busy completing animal totem designs. We have started to cut out and glue these to dis- play paper. All students have been working very carefully on their designs and I can’t wait to see all pieces completed and displayed together. Grade 5/6 experimented with dry pastel to make a personal symbol design. Dry pastel is a tricky medium to control, some students opted back to using pencil or oil pastel. However, all students had a go and produced some wonderfully abstract and stylish results. Chinese Grade Prep The students revised how to introduce their name and age to others. They started to create a mini book about themselves. Grade One and Two The students have been revising some Chinese characters they learned before. They are able to learn 6 new Chinese characters. Grade 3/4 Grade 3&4 students have done the Student Voice Survey about Chinese lessons. They revised the knowledge of how to count 1-99 in Chinese. Grade Five and Six Grade 5&6 students have done the Student Voice Survey about Chinese lessons. Students kept learning about the city Shanghai, such as its population, tourist attractions and transportation.
