PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGES Step Up To School: The ‘Step Up To School’ program will be commencing next Wednesday and will run every second Wednesday all year. The dates for the Term 2 sessions are: Wednesday 19th May 9:45-11:20 Wednesday 2nd June: 9:45-11:20 Wednesday 16th June: 9:45-11:20 This program will allow children aged 3-5 years to become more familiar and comfortable in a school environment. Parents will need to stay with their children for the sessions which will involve early literacy and numeracy activities, as well as indoor and outdoor play opportunities. Students who are enrolling at any local primary school are able to attend. Please encourage those who are interested to book their spot by making contact with me. School Open Day: On Wednesday 26th May, the Indigo East Cluster of schools will be hold- ing a joint open day at their respective school sites. This includes Osbornes Flat, Yackandan- dah, Wooragee and Middle Indigo Primary Schools. On this day, people are able to explore their neighbourhood school, take a personalised tour and discuss the enrolment process. If you know of anyone who lives in the Osbornes Flat area and is looking to enrol their children in a school, please encourage them to view the school on the day or contact me to make an- other mutually suitable time. NAPLAN: All of the NAPLAN tests are now complete for 2021. I was pleased by the resili- ence and persistence our students showed while completing these tests. When the school wide results are released, I will communicate these with the parent community. Each child will also receive a report with their individual results and these will be sent home when they arrive. Ipads: If you did not request a laptop from the school as part of the ‘Bridging the Digital Divide’ program, you will be receiving an excess Ipad from the school These are now ready for collection. Please see me to collect a transfer of ownership form to sign prior to taking the device home with you. All families who had students with us in Year 6 last year are also enti- tled to the device. Cross Country: On Friday the 28th of May the following students will be representing the school at the Division Cross Country as they placed in the top 10 for their respective age groups: Kaidence Jones, Annika Naldrett, Maydee Anderson, Larni Dryden, Maggie Murphy, Hetty An- derson, Emily Heinjus, Jesse Henry, Nate Dryden, Harry Schmidt, Edward Greig, Isaac Schmidt, Douglas Greig , Clancy Weeks, Charlie Henry. It is so exciting to see half of our school making it to this level. We have the largest number of entrants out of all the NERSSA schools. Go OFPS!!!!
Simultaneous Story time: this will be held next Wednesday and this year’s story is Give Me Some Space. Margaret from the Yackandandah Library will be doing some activities with the Junior class around this story. Sausage Sizzle: from Monday’s sausage sizzle we raised $92.00, which helped use up and pay for the left-over sausages from our Bunnings BBQ, as well as being a great treat for the students. Garden Competition : The Year 3 students took out first prize in the scarecrow competition at the Yack Gar- dening club Expo recently and we also had two winners in the mini garden section. We received some grea gardening equipment for our school. Well done to all! Toilets Painted: Thanks Marco (Vispaint) for your great work painting the exterior of our toilets, as well as the gazebo and teepees! Mothers Day Craft: Last week our students spent time making lavender bags and mixed herbs for a special Mother’s Day gift. It was great to have parents and grandparents show our students the basics of sewing. I hope all of the OFPS mums had a love- ly day! Cooking: yesterday the Junior class made bread and butter pudding, which many enjoyed, some not so much. But it’s great that all students have a taste of everything that we make. Have a great weekend, Sarah.
456 CLASS REPORT Year 4/5/6 have students have shown that they are kind hearted, resilient and adaptable with a very warm welcome to having a new teacher in their class. In our whole school Social and Emotional lessons, we have been learning about identifying positive coping strategies which has proven to be useful for what has been a changeable term. In our Integrated Unit, the students have been great leaders within their groups with the junior class. They have been designing and building rafts to transport a cut out gingerbread man. The 4/5/6 students proudly ran in the Cross Country with most students placing in the top 10! We have been training by doing running drills in PE for the Division round against other schools in the region. The students also entered another competition of a different sort. They made mini gardens to enter in the Yackandandah Gardening Club Competition. Maydee and Zahli won a price and so did Annika and Jesse. A fun and exciting highlight has been a class party in week 3. The students earned it by completing a column of their classroom bingo rewards sheet. Each student brought party food to share. We had 30 minutes of dance party and another 30 minutes of free time on the computer. There is a new addition to the classroom space on request by the students. We have constructed a Chill Out area for students who have finished their work early. It has been a great start to term 2 and we cannot wait to share some more news from our class in future newsletters. Angela/Ms Lawrence
