I am sending you, in the same email, the lunch form registration for the 3rd term, from the 26th April. Please fill them in and send them back to me. Thanks The school photographer will be back to school on Wednesday 31st March. If you would like him to take a photo of your child/ren, please let me know. Wow! What a busy week we have had in the Primary school. Monday's assembly was all about working well in a partnership or team and what qualities and skills we can bring to make work easier and effective. Some children from Grade 4 told us about some different animals that work well together, such as ostriches and zebras...who knew? We then saw some examples of great ISB uniforms, via the Secret Uniform Scanner. This week, Esther and Sébastien from Grade 3 were scanned along with Agniya from Grade 2 and Iris from Grade 5 - All were awarded 10 house points for their impeccable dress sense! The assembly ended with a trailer for 'The ISB Masked Reader'. If you've not seen it yet, head to Teams and see if you can guess who is reading an extract from a famous story, and what the story is! The idea behind this is to get the children talking about books, but of course, it's also great fun! As part of Grade 6s PSHE lessons, on Wednesday, they organised some fayre games for Grade 4 and 5. There were prizes such as lollipops, pens, Rubix cubes and even Lego Star Wars, but at the same time there were also 'booby prizes', like a piece of toilet paper, or an empty bottle of Orangina (Which poor Miss Murielle won!!). Lots of fun was had by all and it was a great success, with Grade 6 learning lessons about events organisation along the way! We don't know exactly how much money they raised for Cardinal Emile Biayenda School, but we'll let you know on Teams, as soon as we've counted it all (there's a lot to count!). It's not over yet though and Thursday and Friday will see two more classes bringing their vehicles to school to have their turn of this exciting event! On Thursday, some Grade 6 children will have their 'mock' Delfprim French exams. Thank you to Miss Murielle, Miss Didi and Mr Daniel for giving the children this opportunity to gain an internationally recognised qualification in French! Grade 6 also have a 'Teams' meeting with a player from Section Paloise on Thursday afternoon too. Finally on Friday, Early Years will be taking part in their sponsored 'Dino Walk', good luck Early Years! Please have look at Team ISB, for a list of the important events that are happening next week, including car washing, children bringing their vehicles to school (Gr 4 Tues, Gr 6 Thurs and Gr 5 Fri) and a book sale! It's safe to say that the classes that have brought their vehicles to school so far have had a fantastic time zooming around the carpark. The teachers have also thoroughly enjoyed it and it's been especially nice to see the children sharing with each other, teaching one another and generally taking care of each other during these special sessions. Reception and Grade 1 had so much fun! Thanks to all the parents for bringing in vehicles and donations, and well done to all the children for being so wonderful and staying safe! In Primary, French classes with Miss Murielle and Miss Didi were very active : En Reception, les enfants ont réalisé de très jolies montgolfières. Grade 3 have been learning all about pyramids and how they might have been built as part of our History topic. International School of Béarn’s News N°23 2020-2021 Page 4
Cooking club : the girls team We saw certificates awarded to lots of different across the school and Mr Hanrahan had a lovely time going around the school awarding even more, ready for next week's assembly! We've got an excited feeling that there may be more than just a few platinum certificates achieved this year! (fingers crossed!!). Grade 5 Grade 6 Students and teachers in Secondary School are spending some time this week in registration time thinking about what makes them happy, as last Saturday was International Day of Happiness International Day of Happiness | United Nations. A display wall is being mounted with contributions from teachers and students with images and quotes of what makes them happy. Using our ideas about happiness gives us a chance to reflect on the things that are important to us in life. Happiness is so important, yet sometimes we are too busy to stop and think about what little steps we can take each day to work on that happiness. As parents, you are also part of our school community, so if you would like to share what makes you happy, please send me a quote or a photograph that represents that, so I can add your contribution to the wall! We might be different in so many ways, but we are united in our desire to be happy! In Grade 10 English language, the work we are doing has focused on student engagement; how can students be more involved in their lessons, have more genuine experiences to write about and thus prepare for the exam syllabus in a less static way. Students have been working on creating their own experiences in school that other students can write reviews about. In the process they have worked on developing their letter writing, team work and independent decision making skills. The first experience took place on Tuesday, with students organising a 4D film experience of Dunkirk. The students' (Tia, Orson, Victor, Viviana, Isabella and Lola) thorough preparation meant that the event was a great success! We will keep you posted on the experiences that are to follow!
