Newsletter ¦ Spring Message from the Head of School The school year has flown by so quickly. The school community has worked together to allow us to continue to improve in everything that we do and allows the learners at Oakfield to flourish. Although very different, this year has been an extremely positive one. The partnerships we have continued with families and other professionals have allowed us to continue to enhance and enrich our learners’ experiences and their learning. Finally, the learners have been fantastic this year and I am very proud of the achievements of every one of them. I would like to say a big thank you to all of you for your patience and flexibility, not just for this term, but for the whole year. It has been amazing how you have supported the school and I know how much the staff have appreciated it. I am proud of the way everyone has responded, not least, your wonderful young people. We hope you have a wonderful summer break, and look forward to welcoming our learners back into school on Tuesday 7th September 2021. Mrs S Allen What’s been happening at Oakfield this term? Awards Day at Oakfield High School and College was a huge success. Congratulations to all of the amazing young people for achieving your well-deserved awards. We are very proud of you all. Newsletter ¦ Spring Earlier this year, Oakfield launched our ‘Student Agency in Learning’ initiative with our year 7 learners. All learners worked extremely hard to complete their first SAIL project; ‘Careers and Aspirations’. As part of this project learners had the opportunity to explore different career paths and discuss their own aspirations. Well done year 7! ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… The last week of term was sports day for school and college. Learners competed in different activities which included the 30m sprint, target throw, slalom, standing jump and the javelin. All learners were exceptional and showed they were all true sporting champions by never giving up and putting complete effort into each event. Both learners and staff thoroughly enjoyed the whole week. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… In Food Technology lessons, year 7 learners have been looking at the topic 'Healthy snacks'. They all made a fruit kebab and then tasted the different fruits before deciding if they enjoyed the taste of the fruit or not. Learning Today for Our Tomorrow
Newsletter ¦ Spring We are pleased to announce that… Oakfield has been awarded the Bronze award, for its commitment in the provision of staff training. Staff have been able to access CPD programmes and qualifications through Best Practice Network and Outstanding Leaders Partnership. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… Solomon Theatre visited College this term. The performance ‘Human’ follows the story of two sisters Piper Age 14 and Polly Age 16 who are surrounded by rapid changing technology. Soloman Theatre explored the pressures for social media and the negative effects it can have on teenage wellbeing. For the end of the year, students in Construction had to submit a project made by them from scratch. This involved planning every step of the task, selecting the right resources and tools and putting to practice the carpentry skills acquired during the year. They are all very proud of their work. A big congratulations to Emily who won this year’s ‘Oakfield’s Got Talent’ contest. Emily sang and signed to the song “Never Enough”. Also, a big well done to our runners up, Sean in second place and Brooke in third place. Thank you to everyone who took part, you are all superstars! Learning Today for Our Tomorrow
Newsletter ¦ Spring This term, College students have learned how to clamp, measure, treat and saw wood, in their Construction lessons. They made a tic-tac-toe board game, a quoits game and a wellington boot rack. Mrs Gough, Mrs Markham and Miss Cunningham have also learned new skills and everyone has really enjoying taking part in this course. This term, 4a enjoyed the outside spaces at school during their Countryside Skills lesson. They made hot chocolate and toasted marshmallows on a camping trangia. Learners also stripped elder branches in preparation to make keyrings in their next lesson. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… As part of their History lesson, 9.2 visited Haigh Hall. At Haigh Hall, learners were able to see how the local area has changed over the years. They also enjoyed looking at all the local wildlife, especially in the huts where they could closely watch the squirrels. Learners had a fabulous time at Haigh Hall and can’t wait to visit again. A big well done to all of our Easimaths and Studyladder winners over the Autumn Term. Learning Today for Our Tomorrow
Newsletter ¦ Spring Year 14 enjoyed their last week in College. We wish them all lots of luck in their future. ………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………… Year 11 learners worked hard to produce their floristry work this term and thoroughly enjoyed their last week in school. During 8.5's science lessons this half term, the topic has been researching and learning all about 'Food Chains'. Learners discovered what makes a food chain, as well as creating their own. They developed their understanding of different food chains by looking at what different animals eat. Learners have made bird feeders and hung them around school, and also looked locally at what animals they can see in their habitats. Learning Today for Our Tomorrow
