2021-2022 Return To School Plan August 19, 2021 RSU 23 Mission Statement: RSU 23 will provide a high quality education for all students. RSU-23 Return To School Plan Design Principles RSU 23 Mission Statement: RSU 23 will provide a high quality education for all students. We will meet all learners as they are, and inspire and support them until they experience success. We will prepare passionate, empathetic, goal- driven members of a society who can embrace change. The RSU 23 Return to School Plan was developed utilizing the following design principles to plan, prepare, and implement ´ Safety & Wellness: Practices and protocols as outlined by the CDC and our health staff will be in place and can be followed ´ Equity: Strive to ensure equitable access to opportunity for ALL of our students ´ Agility & Flexibility: Maintain the ability to adjust effectively to rapidly changing and highly uncertain contexts ´ Sustainability: The plan must be doable and durable ´ Achievement- Students will receive in person instruction as much as possible Revised: 8_14_2021 Document subject to revision as CDC and Maine DOE guidelines evolve
2021-22 School Calendar & Schedule ´ 2021-22 School Calendar (Linked) ´ One additional professional development day at the beginning of the school year to prepare for the start of school ´ Staggered start dates for grade-levels provides staff to check and adjust processes and procedures before the entire district is in session ´ Schedule and Instructional Learning Plan ´ Per US CDC and Maine DOE students will return to full-time in-person learning in the fall with layered prevention strategies in place ´ RSU 23 will work with children and youth with disabilities consistent with the child’s Individualized Education Program (IEP) or Section 504 plan. Health & Safety ´ COVID-19 Symptom Screening ´ Daily Health Screenings for Students & Staff ´ DOE Daily Symptom Screener ´ Physical Distancing ´ 3ft or the extent possible without disrupting the educational process ´ Masks/Face Covering ´ Indoors: Universal indoor masking for all teachers, staff, students, and visitors to K-12 schools, regardless of vaccination status. ´ Outdoors: People do not need to wear masks when outdoors. ´ Hand Hygiene: ´ Alcohol-based hand sanitizer will be provided in all buildings Revised: 8_14_2021 Document subject to revision as CDC and Maine DOE guidelines evolve
RSU 23 Health Services Team ´ Health Services Team Staffing ´ There will be a member of the RSU 23 School Health Team (Nurse or Health Aid) full-time in every building to support school staff and students, monitor health and provide ongoing consultation and guidance regarding health protocols. ´ Symptomatic Staff & Students & Protocols for Return to School after Illness ´ Implementation of a process for triage and monitoring of symptomatic students and supervised isolation while waiting for dismissal. ´ Symptomatic Student Protocol (DOE) ´ Protocols for Return to School after Illness ´ RSU 23 will follow CDC and Maine DOE guidelines ´ Personal Protective Equipment ´ Procurement of necessary personal protective equipment for all RSU 23 Students and Staff Revised: 8_14_2021 Document subject to revision as CDC and Maine DOE guidelines evolve
RSU 23 Health Services Team Continued ´ Vaccine Clinics ´ RSU 23 will continue to partner with vaccine providers to offer additional vaccine clinics as vaccination eligibility expands. ´ Vaccines! Fully vaccinated people who are asymptomatic do not have to quarantine when exposed to a positive COVID case. ´ Pooled Testing (Grades K-8) ´ Any student or staff member who participates in weekly pooled testing is exempt from quarantine even if they are considered the close contact of another, school-related COVID-positive case. ´ BinaxNow Rapid Testing ´ The BinaxNOW test is a rapid antigen test (nasal swab) that is most accurate when a person is tested in the early stages of infection with COVID-19. The goal is to rapidly identify symptomatic individuals with COVID-19 so that appropriate isolation and contact tracing can begin quickly. Facilities ´Ventilation ´ RSU 23 ventilation capabilities are maximized and include the following: ´ HVAC systems adjustments increase outdoor air ventilation & extend circulation cycling times ´ Increased filter replacement ´ District-wide deployment of True HEPA Air Filters for every learning space ´Cleaning & Disinfecting ´ Implement enhanced cleaning precautions ´ Clean and disinfect high-touch areas frequently (doorknobs, desktops, faucets, etc.). Transportation ´ Symptom Screening ´ For students riding the bus, symptom screening should be performed by families prior to being dropped off at the bus. ´ Face Coverings ´ Per US CDC, Masks are required to be worn by everyone on the bus during school bus transportation ´ Hand Hygiene ´ Hand sanitizer use is encouraged when entering and exiting the bus. Athletics, Extracurriculars, Visitors and Field Trips ´ Athletics and Extracurriculars ´ All Fall Sports & Activities are In-Session ´RSU 23 continues to utilize Maine DOE, CDC and MPA recommendations for implementation ´ Visitors ´ Sign-In, Symptom Screening & Masks Required ´ Field Trips ´ Field trips will be approved and scheduled at the discretion of the building principal’s in consultation with the RSU 23 Health Services Team Revised: 8_14_2021 Document subject to revision as CDC and Maine DOE guidelines evolve
REDUCING SCHOOL-BASED EXPOSURE : Quarantine Proofing Our RSU 23 Community ´ Highlights Include: ´ Vaccines! Fully vaccinated people who are asymptomatic do not have to quarantine when exposed to a positive COVID case. ´ 80% of RSU 23 Parents are interested in additional school-based vaccination clinics for vaccine eligible students, staff and community? ´ Pooled Testing! Any student or staff member who participates in weekly pooled testing is exempt from quarantine if exposed to COVID at school and asymptomatic. This is a great option for non-classroom school exposure. ´ 71% of RSU 23 parents would consider enrolling their children in optional pooled testing ´ Universal indoor mask policy! Asymptomatic students who attend school where wearing masks indoors is consistently enforced and who were at least 3' away from the individual who tested positive (with no physical contact) in a classroom do not have to quarantine from the regular school day. ´ 67% of RSU 23 parents supported the US CDC recommendation Revised: 8_14_2021 Document subject to revision as CDC and Maine DOE guidelines evolve
