Franklin From Afar In accordance with Palm Beach County School Board, Franklin Academy will begin the 2020- 2021 school year via remote live instruction. First Day of School Monday, August 31, 2020 (K – 8) School Hours 8:00 a.m. to 2:45 p.m. (K – 8) Lunch Time 11:45 a.m. to 12:15 a.m. Kindergarten 11:40 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. 1st Grade 11:10 a.m. to 11:40 a.m. 2nd Grade 11:30 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. 3rd Grade 11:40 a.m. to 12:10 p.m. 4th Grade 12:00 p.m. to 12:30 p.m. 5th Grade Daily Special Schedules (K – 5) Special Area Classes | 30 minutes Recess | 15 minutes Brain Breaks and Stretch Breaks General School Information

Curriculum Curbside Pick-Up A schedule will be published with specific dates and times for pick-up of student curriculum materials, including workbooks, manipulatives and other consumable items. Supply Lists Updated supply lists are published on the school’s website and were sent via email to all families. Headphones or Headsets (no earbuds) Students are required to have headsets to promote an optimal level of interaction during distance learning. Elementary Materials and Supplies
Attendance Daily attendance will be taken by the teacher for each class period. Students will be marked tardy after 8:00 a.m. All compulsory attendance laws are in full effect. Transportation may not be feasible during Phase 2 if social distancing guidelines prevent full capacity seating. Special Updates
Technolog y Devices School-Issued Technology Device Specifications Desktops and laptops with integrated cameras are recommended over tablets as some instructional programs will not operate on a tablet. How Do I Rent a Device? Did You Complete the Technology Survey? A schedule for pick-up of school-issued rental devices will be published during the week of August 10th. Rental Agreements Parents will be required to sign a rental agreement if borrowing a device from school. Rental Devices The school-issued device may be an all-in-one desktop (w/ keyboard and mouse) or a laptop.
National School Lunch Program (NSLP) Lunch Provider: SLA Management Pick-Up Service / Drive-Through Only • Available Tuesday and Thursday only • Tuesday: 4 meals (2 breakfast/2 lunch) • Thursday 6 meals (3 breakfast/3 lunch) Pick-Up Times To Be Determined Pick-Up Locations Meals may be picked at any Franklin Academy campus. At Pembroke Pines K-8, distribution will take place on the west side of the building under covered awning. Identification Placards • A BLUE color-coded placard with student’s name and lunch ID must be displayed on the vehicle dashboard. • If school-issued placard is not displayed and lunch number is unknown, parent must have a photo ID. Create a designated learning space Choose a designated learning space that allows your child to feel a sense of ownership and empowerment when they sit down to learn (i.e. nook in corner of room, wide hallway, etc.) Ensure a relaxed and quiet environment Minimize distractions by making sure all toys, games, and activities are tucked away during learning hours. Check for good lighting and ensure that the desk/table/chair is a comfortable height with legroom below. Materials and Supply Station Easy access to school electronic device, charger, and headphones. Have school books and supplies easily accessible at all times. Set up an area for supplies (pencils, crayons, markers, notebooks, etc.) Have a daily schedule and routine Having a daily schedule will help with morning, school day, and after school routines. Steps to Ensure a Successful Start By Wednesday, August 26,2020, you should receive: An email from your child’s homeroom teacher with the following information: • Class Presentation • Sign up link for virtual Meet & Greet 8/28/20 • Google Classroom Invite- Click Accept Before first day of school, parents should: • Login to Clever (using credentials sent via Swift) • Login to Google Classroom • Add class codes in Google Classroom using the codes emailed by teachers First day of school: • Login to Clever • Click on Google Classroom • Click on Google Meet Link • We’ll take it from here…
Virtual Meet and Greet for Grades K-5. • Each family will sign up for a 5-7 minutes time slot to introduce themselves and their child to their classroom teacher. • The sign up will be sent via email on Wednesday, Aug. 26th. Save the Date!
Franklin from Afar - Continue virtual instruction for students choosing this option Franklin Live - Students choosing to come to campus daily Franklin Flex - Students coming to school every other day When we transition, there is a chance that your child’s schedule and teacher may change, based on following the CDC guidelines and maintaining social distancing within the classrooms. We will have a limited amount of students live on campus during phase 2, so that we can keep everyone safe and healthy. Phase 2- Three Programs
