Dakota of the White Flats is an adaption of the novel by award-winning author Philip Ridley. A thrillingly spooky and punk show created for a cross-over audience of young people and adults, with wild characters, gutsy heroines, and an electric score. Made in Red Leap’s signature visual style, playing with dimension, shadow and blazing physicality. Dakota Pink is 14-years-old and afraid of nothing. She lives in a bleak housing complex on the edge of a polluted canal, the skyline spiked with television aerial crowns. Abandoned supermarket trolleys litter the streets and the oil slick water of the canal is filled with monstrous mutant eels. Dakota and her best friend Treacle discover a secret that sends them across the water to the broken glass fortress on Dog Island. Directed by Ella Becroft, with set designed by John Verryt, lighting by Rachel Marlow and composition by Eden Mulholland, Dakota of the White Flats promises to be a fast-paced and electrifying show, exploring ideas of resilience and bravery in a changing world. The show is made specifically for intermediate and high school audiences. Touring to WHANGĀREI, HAMILTON, TAURANGA and AUCKLAND

‘It provides the kind of richly immersive theatre experience that transports you heart and soul to some other zone of aliveness.’ Theatreview Owls Do Cry Considered the first great New Zealand novel, Janet Frame’s Owls Do Cry follows the story of the Withers siblings, Daphne, Chicks, Toby and Francie, and their lives in small town New Zealand following a family tragedy. Red Leap Theatre’s contemporary response to the novel uses live music and song, dynamic movement, AV, and our trademark visual style to reveal Frame’s insight into our society and her astounding approach to character, imagery and poetry. ‘Red Leap Theatre’s production of Janet Frame’s debut novel, Owls Do Cry, immerses the audience deep in the heart of the author’s masterpiece, loses us in the words, the sounds, the terror, the loss, the sweet moments of pure bliss. It literally left me gasping.’ The 13th Floor
