Rome International Model United Nations 14th SESSION THE SECRETARIAT Dear MUN Director, The Secretariat of RIMUN 2020 is pleased to officially invite you to the fourteenth session of Rome International Model United Nations, which will be held in Rome at Liceo Statale “Farnesina” from the 20th to the 24th of March 2020. Last year more than 600 students from all over the world attended RIMUN as delegates, chairs and staff, creating a suggestive and unique atmosphere. Our conference is such an example of Italy’s warmth and prestige that many Institutions, throughout the years, have shown great interest by offering their support and aid. RIMUN has even been awarded the Silver Plate, official recognition by the President of the Republic of Italy. Eight years ago, RIMUN reached such high educational standards that allowed it to obtain THIMUN affiliation. THIMUN procedures are the ones we are currently using and we are proud of being affiliated to this network. Since Model United Nations does not only aim at simulating the work of the United Nations, but also tries to offer a chance to improve understanding and cooperation amongst young people from all over the world in a friendly, inclusive and inventive atmosphere, it would be a pleasure for us to see you in this year’s session of RIMUN. Due to the huge amount of participation requests received for RIMUN 2019, we are able to allow the participation of a limited number of delegates per school; this will likely be this year’s situation. This number will be evaluated on the basis of the number of schools that are going to attend our conference, the available spots and on the competence of the students from the applying school. We, however, remain open to trying to satisfy your further requests in accordance with our spots of availability. Applications are now open and close on the 25th of October. You can apply now at our official website www.rimun.com. For any general query feel free to contact us at info@rimun.com. Rome International Model United Nations 14th SESSION THE SECRETARIAT HOUSING Visiting schools can decide to be hosted by Italian families or they can choose independently other forms of accommodation such as hotels, hostels etc. Our team is working on providing discounted fees for hotels that are close to the venue of the conference. The maximum number of students who can receive private accommodation is about 120. Family accommodation will be distributed by following a “first come first served” criterion. In other words, it will be based on the date of enrolment. TRANSFER SERVICE Incoming schools may also book, through the organization of RIMUN, a useful private transfer, bringing them from the airport to the school on the day of their arrival and vice-versa on the day of their scheduled departure. The fee of the private coach has to be paid by the requesting school, and its amount will be communicated to you by the organizers once we have your flight details and the number of students attending. CONFERENCE THEME In deciding this year’s theme, the Secretariat has chosen to focus on the impact that technology has had on our past, has on our present and, mostly, will have on our future. As scientific and technological innovation grows steadily at unprecedented speeds, humans are now capable of envisioning a far more distant future than the one that their parents could have ever imagined. It is important to learn from our predecessors and truly understand the dangers beyond the benefits, bearing in mind the accessibility of the World’s knowledge. The discovery of fossil fuels and their election as the primary engine of the global economy are a perfect example of how embracing innovations with open arms can, yet uncritically, can pose an existential threat. Mankind needs to grasp the extent to which the Fourth Industrial Revolution, led by digital innovation, is rapidly transforming our society. Ranging from big-data profiling, embodied by the Cambridge Analytica scandal, to sustainable alternatives to plastic and truly renewable green economies, no aspect of the technological innovation should be left behind: it is essential to thoroughly understand these matters in order to build a world in which the future generations will be able to live. This is why we decided this year’s theme is: “Change is here to stay”: embracing technological innovation to thrive and secure a better future for humanity. www.rimun.com info@rimun.com rimun.official - _rimun
