3 February 2020 YEAR 8 CAMP & SURF SCHOOL 2020 Coffs Harbour – Coffs Coast Adventure Centre (CCAC) Wednesday 19 February – Friday 21 February 2020 This year’s camp to Coffs Harbour is promising to be a fantastic time to develop new and deeper relationships with and between students. The program is designed to be fun whilst developing teamwork, cooperation and mutual dependence. As a staff we are looking forward to an invaluable opportunity to meet and learn more about each student in Year 8 and to teach them more about God and His world. Dear Parents/Carers Purpose: Camps at Taree Christian College are compulsory events for all secondary students. This a valuable time for students to develop new friendships with their peers and teachers, as well as strengthen old ones. It is a chance for students to create lasting memories and develop their character as they face challenges outside of the normal routine. We encourage parents and carers to be supportive and excited about this wonderful opportunity. Location & Accommodation: The camp will be held at Coffs Coast Adventure Centre in Bonville, near Coffs Harbour. Students will be sleeping in dormitory style accommodation. Facilities include a large dining hall and kitchen, recreation/meeting hall, games room and playing areas. Meals: Students will need morning tea and lunch packed for the first day. Meals on site are catered for although there may be opportunities to buy snacks at various places during the camp. Please be aware that some students suffer severely from allergies to nut products and therefore we ask that any food which is brought on camp does not contain nuts. To avoid potential problems, students will not be permitted to eat on the bus. Travel: Students will be travelling by coach. We will leave the College at 9:30am on Wednesday 19 February. Therefore, students need to be at the College by 9:15am to allow time for packing of coaches, roll marking, final instructions, etc. Students will return in time for the regular afternoon buses on Friday 21 February. Supervising Staff: Attending staff are - Mrs Collier, Mrs Donaldson, Mrs Blyth, Mr Reed and Mr Saunders. The contact number for camp is 0423 918 485. ACKNOWLEGEMENT OF INFORMATION MISBEHAVIOUR, CIGARETTES, ALCOHOL AND PROHIBITED SUBSTANCES ON CAMPS Please be aware that gross misbehaviour, disobedience which could endanger the safety of the student and/or others, possession of cigarettes, alcohol or any prohibited substance while on a school camp may lead to being withdrawn from the activity and sent home. Parents will be required to collect their child or come to some other appropriate arrangement with the teacher in charge to get them home. Compromising the excursion by such wilful behaviour will not be accepted. Given the clarity of this requirement parents are urged to instruct their children accordingly. Please note that students on a level 2 card will be unable to attend College camp. General Comments: a) Since one of the aims of the excursion is to encourage interaction among the students, iPods, MP3 players or any other media players are not to be brought. b) Mobile phones are not needed on camp and must not be brought; students can be contacted via staff mobile if needed urgently. c) If your child suffers from travel sickness it would be appreciated if you could provide them with suitable medication. This will need to be given to staff on the morning of departure, clearly labelled with your child’s name and dosage instructions. d) While all care will be taken, the College and staff will not be responsible for lost property. Please help your child look after their belongings by clearly labelling each item. e) If students would like to meet with any family who are in the area, this should be negotiated with Mrs Collier prior to the excursion and a written permission note sent with your child. Please complete the attached form regarding medical details and acknowledgement that you have read the camp information, along with the form from the Adventure Centre. Please return both forms to your student’s Roll Call teacher by Friday 7 February 2020.
