School Mission and Vision Mission East-West International School is a community of students, educators, staff, and parents striving to achieve excellence in a caring environment. Vision It is the vision of East-West to provide each and every student the opportunity to learn, to be challenged, to be creative, to think critically, to know acceptance, and thus to provide a strong foundation for further study and/or work in an ever changing world. East-West is dedicated to academic excellence. By making learning relevant and appropriate, East-West hopes to instill in each child a lifelong love of learning and the ability to solve problems creatively. East-West also wishes that each student learns about and appreciate Cambodian culture and language, as well as other cultures of the world, thus giving them a global perspective so that each becomes a responsible world citizen and a contributing member of society. Respect for cultural differences, language, and background of all who are the East-West community is an everyday expectation which engages students in the realities of this global perspective. East-West strives to become a leading educational institution, both locally and internationally.

Secondary Curriculum Khmer National Curriculum Grades 6, 7, 8 Grades 9, 10 – IGCSE – Grades 6 - 12 Grades 11, 12 – AS/A Levels
Cambodian Curriculum Grade 6 • Follows the curriculum prescribed by the MOEYS for each grade, including the following subjects: Khmer Language, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies. Grades 7-9/ 10-12 • Follows the curriculum prescribed by the MOEYS and includes the following subjects: Khmer Literature, Math, Biology, Earth Science, Morals and Civics, Physics, Chemistry, History and Geography. • All subjects are taught in Khmer by professional and specialized teachers by the MOEYS. • In Grade 12, students can choose to focus on the science strain or the social studies strain
International Middle Years Curriculum • Inquiry-based • Organized around 21st Century topics such as adaptability, balance, belief, celebration, challenge, collaboration, community • Each unit is formed on a “Big Idea.” These cross all curricular areas, including Math, English, Science and Social Studies
Cambridge - IGCSEs (Grades 9 and 10) • International General Certificates of Secondary Education are two-year courses, with exams at the end of Grade 10. • IGCSE Subjects: • English (First/Second Language) • Mathematics (Core/Extended) • Coordinated Science (double credit) • History • Geography • Global Perspectives • ICT
Cambridge – AS and A-Levels (Grades 11 and 12) • Students study a series of courses called A-Levels, or Advanced Level, which are also two-year courses with exams at the end. The first year can stand on its own as an Advanced Subsidiary Level (AS-Level) • A-Level Subjects: • English Language, English Literature • Mathematics (Pure Maths and Statistics) • Biology, Physics, Chemistry • History, Geography, Global Perspectives • ICT
Mobile Device Policy Students will be able to use their phones freely on the ground floor of school during recess, lunch and after school. When students go upstairs to class, phones will be turned completely off in order to minimize distractions. Phones can be turned on only inside classrooms with teacher permission. If a student’s mobile device is turned on, even if the student isn’t using it, students will be reminded of the policy, and then the device will be confiscated. If you need to contact your child during the day, please contact the main office at 023.998.244.
Campus Exit Cards • Students who are allowed to leave on their own are issued with a yellow Campus Exit card with their photo, a parent’s signature and the director’s signature. • Secondary students and primary students who are not permitted to leave on their own are issued with a red Campus Exit card, with designated pick-up people on the back. • All persons (parents/drivers/other relatives/etc.) collecting children from the main gate must show Campus Exit cards for all students they are collecting.
Homework • East-West Homework Guidelines: • Kindergarten to Grade 5 should not exceed 10 minutes x grade level per day (e.g. Grade 3 = 30 minutes) • Grades 6-12 should not exceed 1 hour per day • Daily reading at home should be a core component of homework at all grade levels across all curricula. • Khmer homework may take longer than the allocated time given the nature of the language • Students should not need adult help to complete homework, if a student is unable to complete the task independently, please contact the teacher or principal. • If you feel your child is assigned too much, or too little homework, please contact the school and we would be happy to meet with you.
After-School Program • The Elementary After-School Program provides a variety of activities held every day except Wednesdays from 2:30 – 3:30 pm.. • Khmer Language and English Language Support classes are held four afternoon a week from 2:30 – 3:30 pm (not Wednesday) for those students who need extra help. • The Secondary After-School Program includes sports, drama and other Student-Council-led activities. • ISSAPP teams practice in the Thunderdome or off-campus. • The East-West Student Council organizes a range of extra- curricular events. These include sleepovers, dances, movie sessions, and other activities. Secondary teachers supervise Student Council events outside of school hours.
