Issue: 26 16th April 2021 Dear Parents/Carers and Children, Welcome back to Bishops’ for what I hope and pray will be a great summer term. It is so good to see all your children, and you, and the school buzzing again. We also have some new staff joining us this term, and we hope they will have an enjoyable and fulfilling time with us all. Mrs Murgatroyd is an LSA in Year 2 THE BISHOPS’ SCHOOL NEWS Mr Knuppel is an LSA in Year 6 Miss Shultz is an LSA in Year 1 On a sadder note, but happy for her we hope, the wonderful Mrs Child is retiring at the end of this term. We will miss her hugely, and there will be lots of time at the end of term to reminisce over her time at Bishops’ – and we have a whole term to continue to enjoy her extraordinary energy, love of teaching and musical wizardry. Live Fully, Laugh Often, Learn Deeply, Love as God Loves You and Let Your Light Shine
Plans for this term – we are looking forward to some normal things and some special things – productions for Year 2 and Year 6, a sports day, a Celebration Week of Exciting Things in the week of 5th June…..all working alongside whatever restrictions are operating at the time. The Year 6s, whilst not going to Thorpe Woodlands this year, are heading off for 2 days to Stubbers Adventure Centre where they will do many exciting activities on land and water. Just a few joyful pictures to celebrate the start of term in the sunshine….. FS are building homes (including writing their addresses)…. …. Mr and Mrs Pigeon have also decided to make Bishops’ their home – in the outdoor classroom.
Here is a photo of Elena and Shrishti in 4HG with their award. Elena was awarded a distinction in her Grade 1 Violin exam with a very impressive score and Shrishti competed in a national chess competition for Essex. The team came 3rd nationally and Shrishti has been ranked 4th in the county for her age group.
Year 1 writers are developing their stamina this term…. …. and Year 5s have been doing Road Safety. Lateral Flow Tests - Many of you are taking the Lateral Flow tests at home which is helping to ensure our local area is well monitored for the spread of Covid. The Department for Education have advised that these tests are intended for the use by the adults in the families of primary aged children. Children who exhibit symptoms should be taken for a PCR test. Masks - The vast majority of you are wearing masks when close to the school – thank you for this and please keep it up for the time being. If you see someone not wearing a mask, please assume they are exempt, as many of us are asthmatic or have other conditions which make wearing masks a problem. Parking - Email received from a local resident…..‘I would be really grateful if you could remind parents not to completely block local residents driveways whilst picking up their children from school. I live a fair way from the school in Rembrandt Grove and the driveway is often blocked, even when there are plenty of nearby spaces that don’t block driveways. This is frustrating when I’m unable to get may car out of my driveway and sets a poor behaviour example to children. It would be great if you could highlight this on a regular basis. Encouraging more sustainable forms of transport would be great too’.
Remember this? - the Race to Canterbury – in October 2019, when the pandemic was not even in our imaginations! The date is finalised for this term’s - Race to The British Library – Friday 28 May. th Walkers, Runners and Cyclists (and everyone for the service) – reserve the dates! Celebration St. Augustine’s Day outdoor Eucharist and Picnic will this th year be on Thursday 27 May, and the Race to the British Library, to raise th funds for the new school hall, is on Friday 28 May. We hope that whoever is leading our service on 27th will be happy to ask God’s blessing on everyone taking part, on their walking boots and running shoes and bicycles, so we will be ready to go in every way on the Friday, when of course the children will be doing their own walk/ run to London, but within the school grounds…. For your information, The British Library is just a 35 miles (56km) walk/run from our library, or 42 miles (68km) for cyclists , which is happily less than the Race to Canterbury! Please let me know if you would like to take part. We are excited to announce that the All Churches Trust have presented us with £10,000 in support of our Hall project, and whilst we were unsuccessful in the latest bidding round from the dioceses, we are welcoming their building officers to the school next week to help them to see why the project is so necessary.
