Vol 41 June 2021 Another successful Pork N' Ride 2021 led by Committee Chair Jim Remington, Log Cabin Bar hosts Dan & Fran Barrett, the many volunteers, ride leaders, and to all the business members for their outstanding donations for the raffle. There were 168 machines that registered for one of the nine guided rides, and there were multiple rider groups that rode on their own. In many of the side by side ATV's there were two people, providing us with an estimate around 175 machines and 250 people out riding. Bryan Swenson, and the BSQ BBQ team served 387 delicious meals. Two local gas stations ran out of non-oxygenated fuel, and most all of the campgrounds and motels in the area were full of riders attending the event. Groups of wheelers were observed at Restaurant /Bars in Fifty Lakes, Outing, Emily, out at the All-Pine on Morrison Lake and Hidden Meadows on Blind Lake. This fundraising event raised over $5300 after net expenses, for the trails, The majority of revenue came from raffle revenue, clothing sales, and donations, while handing out $2000 in cash prizes, $645 in gift certificates and one $300 Power Lodge Rental certificate. A special thanks also goes to the Crooked Lake Township Volunteer Fire Department who had members come out and water down Sunset Hill Road with seven tanker truck loads of water to keep the dust down on this critical trail connection to help ensure this community event was a success. Thank You to Everyone donating their time & talents with making this a successful event !

ATV Safety Weeks begins June 28th, 2021 and runs through Sunday July 4th, 2021. We will post seven days of ATV Safety related messages on our club Facebook page, and on Saturday July 3rd, 2021 we will be promoting ATV Safety Day with a small tent full of information in Emily, and certified MN DNR Safety Instructors answering questions you may have. Three teams of MN DNR Volunteer Trail Ambassadors will help to monitor the trails, and we have invited law enforcement personnel from the Emily City Police, MN DNR Conservation Officer, and Crow Wing County Sheriff Departments to join us. Our small communities of Emily, Outing and Fifty lakes are exceedingly popular ATV riding destinations. We have great trails with great local amenities such as campgrounds, motels, restaurants, bars, gas stations, ice cream shops, power sports shops, etc. that add to the rider experience. The sport of ATV Recreation has a large economic impact on our area; however, we are also observing the growing pains which include some poor riding behaviors and uninformed riders. The four E’s of effective trail management are Enforcement, Education, Engineering, and Evaluation. The goal of ATV Safety Week and ATV Safety Day is Education, to inform has many ATV’s riders coming into our community some beginning steps to be a safe and informed rider. Over 200 riders visited us in 2020 in downtown Outing, and our hope is to have the same amount of contact this year. Added bonus - We will be joined by the Emily, Outing, Fifty Lakes Lions Club who will be selling a Hot Dog meal. Clint Converse State Forest Campground is located on Lake Washburn, north of Outing, MN, and 2-miles west on Cass County Rd. 48. In 2020 the campground was opened up for ATV access and egress to campsites. ATV operator regulations are posted while entering the campgrounds, and speed limits are 10 MPH wile inside the campground boundaries. The campground is considered "primitive," designed to furnish only the camper's basic needs. The 31 campsites consist of a cleared area, fire ring, and table. Also, vault toilets, garbage cans, and drinking water are available from mid-May through mid-October. A camping fee is required. All sites are on a first- come, first-served basis. Campground host Denny Kral led one of the Pork N' Ride guided rides from the campground to the Hidden Meadows Restaurant on Blind Lake. Denny is also working with the club to find a trail route that would connect the campground directly to local ATV trails.
