Bài đọc 2 Ep 2,4-10 Anh em đã chết vì phạm tội, nhưng được cứu độ nhờ ân sủng. Tin Mừng Ga 3,14-21 Thiên Chúa sai Con của Người đến thế gian, để thế gian, nhờ Con của Người, mà được cứu độ. Suy Niệm “Thiên Chúa yêu thế gian đến nỗi đã ban Con Một, để ai tin vào Con của Ngài thì khỏi phải chết, nhưng được sống muôn đời”. Hãy nhìn lên cây thập giá để tôn vinh Chúa là Đấng giải phóng, để biết Chúa yêu chúng ta đến dường nào. Sống ở đời, chúng ta bị ràng buộc tư bề. Con người bị ràng buộc do lối sống ích kỷ, do những thành kiến mặc cảm, và cũng có thể do những tham vọng đam mê và nhất là do tội lỗi. Vì những ràng buộc này, con người trở thành nô lệ của chính mình, và họ luôn giãy giụa tìm cách để thoát ra khỏi vòng nô lệ ấy. Phụng vụ Chúa nhật IV Mùa Chay muốn khẳng định với chúng ta: Thiên Chúa là Đấng giải phóng và làm cho con người được tự do. Chúa Giêsu khẳng định: một trong những điều kiện căn bản để được cứu độ hay được ơn giải thoát, đó là Đức tin vào quyền năng Thiên Chúa. Tin là tự do chọn lựa Chúa và dấn thân sống hết mình vì chọn lựa đó. Nếu bạn tin vào Chúa, bạn sẽ tìm được sự sống, sẽ được cứu độ trong ngày xét xử, sẽ được ánh sáng chiếu soi. Một khi tin vào Chúa thì những hành động của bạn sẽ là những việc thiện lương. Bởi lẽ bạn không thể tin vào Chúa mà lại có một lối sống ngược lại với điều bạn tuyên xưng. Một cách cụ thể, tin vào Chúa là tin vào Đức Giêsu Kitô. Tin vào Chúa không chỉ có nghĩa là tin Ngài đang hiện diện, mà còn là thiện chí thực hiện những điều Chúa Giêsu dạy. “Ai khước từ Thày là khước từ Đấng đã sai Thày” (Lc 10-16). Đức Tin sự giải thoát chúng ta khỏi sự chết và đem lại cho chúng ta sự sống vĩnh cửu. Đón nhận và thực hiện lời Chúa Giêsu là tuyên xưng Đức Tin vào Thiên Chúa cách hữu hiệu nhất. Nhờ việc tuân giữ giáo huấn của Người, chúng ta trở nên những tác phẩm của Thiên Chúa, được canh tân trong Chúa Giêsu, nên con người hoàn thiện, và như thế, chúng ta làm cho ánh vinh quang của Ngài tỏa rạng qua cuộc đời của chúng ta. Cuộc gặp gỡ với Chúa Giêsu vào ban đêm đã làm cho ông Nicôđêmô thay đổi cuộc đời. Từ một người còn nghi ngờ, dè dặt, ông đã trở nên môn đệ của Chúa. Ông không còn sợ hãi nữa, trái lại, ông đã công khai biện hộ cho Chúa Giêsu nơi những người biệt phái (x. Ga 7,51) và đã cộng tác trong việc an táng Chúa Giêsu (x. Ga 19,39). Một điều đáng chú ý là khi Chúa chịu chết đau thương trên thập giá, cũng chính là lúc ông Nicôđêmô sẵn sàng từ bỏ công danh sự nghiệp để công khai nhận mình là môn đệ của Chúa Giêsu. Thông thường ở đời, người ta đi theo và tôn vinh một người chiến thắng, không mấy ai chấp nhận đi theo một người bị lên án tử hình, như trường hợp ông Nicôđêmô. Mùa Chay là thời điểm sống Đức tin một cách mãnh liệt hơn. Phụng vụ khẳng định: nếu thành tâm tin vào Chúa, chúng ta sẽ tìm được niềm vui ở đời này và hạnh phúc vĩnh cửu. Chúng ta lựa chọn đứng về phía ánh sáng hay bóng tối? Chúng ta đang làm việc thiện hay việc ác? Chúng ta đang bảo vệ sự sống hay cổ võ sự chết? Tất cả những vấn nạn này cần được trả lời bằng cuộc sống cụ thể của mỗi người.
