20'000 lieux sur les mers FIM – WORLD TOURING CHALLENGE 2021 4 rd Edition 11 - 12 September 2021 Martigny, Valais, Switzterland Endurance motorcycle rally team in the heart of the Swiss Alps.
Terms and conditions of participation – Rules The project of the event « 20.000 places above the sea level » It’s not about a race but about a rally in which the participants will be offered 60 destinations in the canton of Valais. They will have to choose 20 of them in order to accumulate a total amount of 20’000 meters above the sea level in 20 hours. The patrols consist of 3 participants minimum and of 3 vehicles maximum. . Scope of application The following measures apply to the event « 20.000 places above the sea level ». Organisation The Organiser of the event is the non-profit Swiss Law Association « 20.000 places above the sea level ». Ability and participation conditions The respect for the Road Traffic Act prevails. The rider who feels fit and experienced enough to undertake this rally is allowed to take part in it. Each participant has a valid driver’s license in the countries crossed. All vehicles in accordance with the Road Traffic Law of 2 or 3 wheels are allowed to participate, no distinction of brand or engine will be taken into account. The organisation reserves the right not to allow the departure of a rider or his motorcycle if it appears that one or the other are not able to ride for 20 hours. Each participant signs a discharge of responsibility towards the organisation. Registration The registration is done on the website of the event: www.20000lieuxsurlesmers.ch
Registration fees The registration fee is CHF 50.- per participant, to be paid into the following account : CH14 0900 0000 1498 4336 0. For our friends outside Switzerland: please contact the organizer for payment. Registration takes effect only after the payment has been received by the organisation. In case of cancellation, registration fees are not refunded. Registration deadline Within the limits of availability. Patrols’ composition The patrols consist of 2 participants minimum and 2 vehicles maximum. The presence of all participants at the departure is mandatory. The replacement of a participant, before the departure, is possible with the agreement of the organiser. If one of the participants is, in spite of himself, prevented from continuing (breakdown, excessive tiredness, health problem, etc.), the patrol is allowed to continue. However, if two vehicles are prevented from continuing, the patrol is disqualified. Passengers are allowed. The passenger is considered to be participating in the event. Map and reference altitudes The reference map for the altitudes is the one of the Confederation (https://map.geo.admin.ch/). The reference map with the list of points will be available at any time at the place of departure and arrival in Martigny. Using GPS and navigation aid Any navigational aid software (GPS, etc.), any paper or electronic map, etc. are allowed (each patrol is authorised to use its own means of navigation, identical to the preparation of a motorcycle ride …) Tracking Each patrol will receive a Tracker that they will carry and keep on “ON” during the whole challenge. The tracking software is the only reference accepted by the organization to confirm the patrol’s route and the actual passage through the patrol’s chosen places. The loss or damage of this Tracker is disqualifying. All expenses related thereto are the responsibility of the patrol concerned.
Counting of points of passage and altitude The tracking software reports on each patrol’s route and crossing points. The counting of the crossing points and the altitude traveled by each patrol will be done by the main table after each round-trip. A patrol can only claim two crossing points per round trip. A minimum of 10 round trips is allowed to accumulate the 20’000 meters altitude of the challenge. Patrols will have to pass a total of 20 different places according to a given choice list before departure Optional relay point The organization gives the possibility of making 2 stops in a defined place other than the main table. This allows each patrol to cross a maximum of 4 places before returning to the main table in Martigny. Mandatory crossing points Out of the 60 points proposed for the challenge, the organisation can make some mandatory. These points appear in red on the lists. The patrols must pass through these mandatory places. They will have to stop there. Technical / mechanical support Before departure, a professional will carry out a basic technical inspection of the vehicle (tires, oil, lights). Any repair, addition of liquids is the responsibility of the participants. The participant remains responsible for the condition of his vehicle. Supplies Hot drinks and snacks, adapted according to the hours, will always be available to participants. A hot meal will be served to participants on Saturday evening. The place of the meal will be indicated on the map of the place. A breakfast (coffee-croissant) is also planned on Sunday morning. Refueling is the sole responsibility of the patrol. Refueling is the only responsibility of the patrol. Accommodation The organisation of the challenge is not responsible for the accommodation of the participants. You can find the list of establishments in Martigny on the website of the tourist office.
Exclusion / Disqualification The organiser of the event reserves the right to exclude any participant in case of unsportsmanlike or inappropriate behavior. Disqualification concerns any absorption of alcohol or drugs during the challenge. The loss of the Tracker or its deactivation (OFF) leads to disqualification. A patrol where half or more of the vehicles are prevented from continuing is disqualified. Failure to comply with the Road Traffic Act. Mandatory breaks A break of minimum 5 minutes between each return is obligatory. A break for the meal of minimum 30 minutes is obligatory, between 6 pm and 9 pm. Teoretical figures To accumulate 20’000 meters above the sea To get closer to 20 hours of challenge 20 places to cross. Responsibility The participation in the event is at the participant’s own risk. Each participant is responsible for his insurance coverage. Each participant confirms with his registration that he has taken out valid accident and liability insurances. The organiser’s liability is excluded, subject to serious misconduct. The organiser reserves the right to terminate or cancel the event due to danger or force majeure, without liability or the participants can claim any compensation. The rider is solely responsible for his / her passenger. Settlement The organisation reserves the right to modify these Rules at any time. Any changes will be posted on the website (the date below is considered as the state of the Regulations), or in writing to the people concerned either in advance of the event or on the spot on the day of the event.
