Sowing Seeds of Hope A Garden Club of Madison Photography Show Wednesday, May 19, 2021 The purpose of The Garden Club of America is: to stimulate the knowledge and love of gardening; to share the advantage of association by means of educational meetings, conferences, correspondence and publications; and to restore, improve and protect the quality of the environment through educational programs and action in the fields of conservation and civic improvement. GENERAL INFORMATION 1. Entries are open to all GCM club members including provi- sionals and professionals in their disciplines. 2. Registration is required. Forms are included at the end of this Schedule. Classes will be filled in the order the registration forms are received according to the postmark/email date and time. 3. Any clarification or change in the rules, as originally stated in this Schedule, shall be communicated promptly in writing by the Show Chairs to all exhibitors in the Class and, at the Show, to the judges and to the passing committee. 4. Only participating judges and clerks will be allowed on the show floor during judging. Show Chairs should remain nearby but off the show floor until needed. 5. A novice is an individual exhibitor who has not won a first place ribbon or a GCA Special Award in the division entered at a GCA Flower Show, GCA Major Flower Show or Sanctioned Non- GCA Major Flower Show. 6. All exhibits must remain in place and in show condition until 15 minutes following the closing time of the show. 5
. PHOTOGRAPHY GUIDELINES 1. Please carefully read and follow the GCA Rules, Gen- eral Information and the Timetable for Exhibitors. 2. An exhibitor may make only one entry in a Class. An exhibitor may enter a second photo in another class if the class has openings as of March 1, 2021. 3. Registration opens on January 11, 2021 and closes on March 19, 2021. If forced to withdraw, an exhibitor must notify the Division Chairs and/or Class Consultant and also find a substitute unless there is a waiting list for the Class. 5. Each photograph must be the work of the Exhibitor under whose name it is registered. 6. A photograph previously entered in any GCA, GCA Major and GCA Sanctioned Non-Major Show or GCA Focus online contest may not be entered again even with slight alterations and reprinting. The same photograph may only be entered in one Show at a time. 7. Any manipulation at any stage must be the work of the Exhibitor. This includes enhancement for color or clarity, removal of a part of the image, combining images, or distorting the original subject. 8. Photography entries are limited to subjects consistent with Garden Club of America interests such as horticulture, floral design, gardens/landscapes, conservation and the environment, historic preservation, civic improvement and the natural world. Plant ma- terial is not required in photographs. 9. Photographs must be mounted on black foam core with no mat or border. Finish is the choice of the exhibitor although matte finish is suggested. 10. Overall dimensions of entry must be a minimum of 36” and not exceed 50” in total perimeter measurement. Glass and framing are not permitted. Portrait or landscape orientation is the choice of the exhibitor. 11. An optional title or statement6 of intent may be included on the
entry form and on the entry card itself not to exceed 25 words. 12. Each entry must have the entry form affixed to the back of the photograph mounting, with the Exhibitor’s name, address, email address, phone number and Class entered. The top of the photograph must be indicated and when possible identifiable plant material listed. 13. The Show Chairs will complete an Entry Card to be staged with each photograph. 14. Photographs will be hung against a light background and will be affixed with tape or mount that may leave a mark on the foam core. 15. Photographs must be received no later than April 12, 2021. All photographs will be passed by the Photography Committee to verify that Class specifications have been met. If a photo-graph is not passed, the Exhibitor will be notified and allowed, if time permits, to send a replacement photograph. 17. Only the Division Chairs may reclassify an entry, but only with the permission of the Exhibitor. The Show Chairs and the Judges may subdivide a Class. 18. If a photograph is to be returned, the Exhibitor must provide a self- addressed return label, envelope, postage, and packing mate-rial. If return envelope is not included, it will be assumed that the image will not be returned to the Exhibitor. 19. PHOTOGRAPHY CLASSES Class 1: Seeing Seeds 4 Entries A close-up color photograph “Seeds are the Time Capsules of Life” Rob Kessler and Wolfgang Stuppy Close-up: a photo taken close to the subject or with a long focal- length lens to permit a close and detailed view of the object. The object fills most of the frame. AWARDS The Ellen Judd Award - Will be awarded in recognition of creative and technical excellence in response to the theme of the Schedule. The photo does not need to be a first, second or third place winner. Best in Show – Will be awarded for an outstanding entry receiving a first place award. Judges Commendation – May be awarded to a class or classes Novice Award - Will be awarded for an outstanding exhibit by an individual novice exhibitor placing first, second, or third place. 10
