CATERING

• There are many catering establishments on campus ranging
  from small snack bars to restaurants.
• The School of Veterinary Medicine has its own café offering
  sandwiches, hot and cold drinks. The first on campus to be
  classed as a zero waste café.

WHAT IS EMS?

Pre-clinical – 12 weeks including 2 weeks each in equine, beef, dairy,
sheep

Clinical – 24 weeks of seeing practice in vet practices including 4 weeks
small animal, 4 weeks large animal, 2 weeks of equine with a week in a
meat plant

Both can be done Internationally – at your own costs

Useful experience of seeing cases ‘live’ and valuable to have some
‘hands-on’ experience outside the classroom.
A lot of students have taken up jobs from practices that they have been
too as a student.

WORK EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENT
• Undergraduate students applying through the CAO system will be required to
  demonstrate that they have acquired at least 60 hours practical experience relevant
  to animal handling between 1 February, 2018, and 31st July, 2021.
• This must include experience with at least two of the following four animal
  categories:
• Pets
• Horses
• Farm Animals
• Wildlife/Zoos
• Animal categories will only be considered if you have a minimum of 5 hours
  experience.

NURSING      Stage 1 & 2 modules in Anatomy, Medical Nursing,

OVERVIEW
             Stage 3 includes a placement in the autumn trimester
             in vet practices across Ireland, other modules include
             ethics, professionalism

             Stage 4 is a clinical based year with rotations in the Vet
             Hospital

REQUIREMENTS
                Pass in any one of the following QQI-FET Level 5 awards
                with distinctions (80% or better) in a minimum of 5 modules:
                CASLT or 5M3807 Laboratories Techniques or CASAC or
                5M2768 Animal Care
