International Day of Human Fraternity: 4 February International Day of Human Fraternity is observed on 4th February globally. The day aims to underline the importance of raising awareness about different cultures and religions, or beliefs, and the promotion of tolerance. It also aims to educate people that tolerance, pluralistic tradition, mutual respect, and the diversity of religions and beliefs promote human fraternity. 2021 theme: A Pathway to the Future. The UN General Assembly on 21 December adopted a resolution declaring 4 February as the International Day of Human Fraternity. The day is being observed for the first time in 2021. ICC in Hague convicts former Ugandan warlord Dominic Ongwen of war crimes and crimes against humanity In the Netherlands, the International Criminal Court (ICC) in the Hague, convicted former Ugandan warlord Dominic Ongwen of war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Ongwen was accused of 70 counts of crimes against humanity, including murder, rape, torture, sexual slavery and using child soldiers, between 2002 and 2004 in northern Uganda when he led a brigade of the LRA. He was found guilty of 61 out of 70 counts. Ongwen, a feared commander of the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA), is the first member of the LRA to appear before the court. India & Bahrain join hands for Renewable Energy The 1st meeting of the Joint Working Group in the field of Renewable Energy between India and Bahrain was held in virtual format. In the meeting, both sides presented the initiatives taken, progress made and future targets set by their respective governments as well as opportunities available in this sector. Both sides also agreed to forge deeper engagement in capacity building and focused cooperation between concerned agencies as well as the private sector of the two countries in this sector, particularly in the field of solar, wind and clean hydrogen. Billionaire Mukesh Ambani-owned Reliance Industries Ltd has received the world’s first consignment of ‘carbon- neutral oil’ from Oxy Low Carbon Ventures (OLCV), a division of United State oil major Occidental. This feat will further help the oil major to accomplish its target of becoming a net zero-carbon company by 2035. The Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) Sea Pearl containing the carbon-neutral oil from the Permian basin, unloaded the cargo at Jamnagar on January 28, 2021. It must be noted that Reliance operates the world’s largest single-location oil refining complex at Jamnagar in Gujarat with a capacity of 68.2 million tonnes a year. Ayesha Aziz becomes India’s Youngest Female Pilot at 25 A 25-year-old Kashmiri woman, Ayesha Aziz, has become the youngest female pilot in the country. She became the youngest student pilot to get a license at the age of 15 in 2011. In the year 2011, Aziz became the youngest student pilot to get a license at the age of 15 and underwent training to fly a MIG-29 jet at Russia’s Sokol airbase the following year. She later graduated in aviation from the Bombay Flying Club (BFC) and obtained a commercial license in 2017. Chiefs of Air Staff (CAS) Conclave Organised at Bengaluru
Raksha Mantri, Rajnath Singh has inaugurated the ‘Chiefs of Air Staff (CAS) Conclave’ at Air Force Station Yelahanka in Bengaluru, Karnataka. The two-day conclave has been organised by Indian Air Force, from 3 to 04 February 2021, in a Hybrid Form. The Chiefs of Air Staff from about 75 countries would come together on a single platform to exchange their thoughts on current issues related to aerospace power strategy and technological developments. 45th Kolkata International Book Fair to be held in July 2021 The 45th Kolkata International Book Fair will be held in July this year at the Central Park Ground of Salt Lake. This year the focal theme country is Bangladesh to mark the country’s Golden Jubilee Year of Independence and the Centenary of Bangabondhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. 125th Birth year of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and Birth Centenary of Satyajit Ray will also be celebrated in the Book Fair. Earlier, the Kolkata International Book Fair was deferred due to the pandemic situation. CM Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurates first heliport of Assam in Majuli district Assam Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal inaugurated the first heliport of the state in Majuli district. The heliport having facility for simultaneous landing of three helicopters was constructed at an expenditure of Rs 50 lakh. The heliport was built with an aim to boost tourism in Majuli, which has a distinct identity as the world's largest river island.
RBI keeps policy repo rate unchanged, GDP forecast at 10.5% The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) said that the monetary policy review has decided to continue with an accommodative stance of monetary policy to maintain status quo on key policy rates. The repo rate is kept unchanged at 4 percent and the reverse repo rate at 3.35 percent. While announcing the policy review the RBI governor Shaktikant Das said that the GDP growth is projected at 10.5 percent in the Financial Year 2021-22. The projection of CPI inflation has been revised to 5.2 percent for the fourth quarter of the current financial year. Ashok Dinda announces retirement from all forms of cricket Fast bowler Ashok Dinda, has announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. The 36-year-old right-handed pacer made his first-class debut for Bengal in 2005 and played for 15 years in Bengal cricket. He made his international debut in 2009, in a T20I against Sri Lanka, followed by making his ODI debut in Zimbabwe in 2010. He played 13 ODIs and 9 T20I matches for India. He played 116 first-class matches for Bengal, taking 420 wickets at a bowling average of 28.28.
