Carol Likens Award • APTA TN member who has provided exceptional service to the profession of physical therapy. The award is named after the first recipient, Carol likens, who served as the president of the Tennessee Chapter from 1985-1995. Her vision, leadership, and commitment to the profession brought the Chapter one of its greatest periods of growth and service to members.

Hall of Fame Award • This award is given to an APTA TN member who has a minimum of 25 years of continuous contribution to APTA TN in a role as a clinician, educator, clinical educator, or combination of the above; a history of service to the APTA TN Board of Directors; contributions to the growth of the profession through formal state, national, or international presentations; and demonstrated exceptional contributions to APTA TN and the profession. The APTA TN Hall of Fame previous recipients will select up to 2 new members each year. The pictures of the recipients will be displayed prominently at all APTA TN meetings.

Outstanding Service Award • This award goes to an outstanding APTA TN member who has brought distinction and honor upon himself/herself by dedication and hard work. The criteria include: extraordinary service to the Chapter by serving on committees, as district chair, as a member of the state licensing board, or as a delegate to the APTA House of Delegates; attendance at state meetings; participation in continuing education courses; contribution to the field of teaching and research; and outstanding contribution to PT at the national, state, or local level.

Excellence in Clinical Practice Award • This award is given to an APTA TN member who has made an outstanding contribution to the clinical practice of physical therapy. The criteria for nomination includes: engaged in extensive practice for at least 10 years; positively and substantially affected the shape, scope, and quality of physical therapy practice; and has had an impact on other physical therapists in a manner that has increased their abilities to practice physical therapy.

New Horizon Award • This is awarded to an APTA TN member with less than 5 years of experience who has made outstanding contributions to the field of physical therapy, demonstrated the potential as a leader in APTA TN and currently, or has served on a District, State, or National Committee.

Outstanding PTA Award • This is awarded to an APTA TN member who is currently practicing or has practiced in the state of Tennessee. Recipient has provided extraordinary service to APTA TN and to their practice and has demonstrated qualities of an outstanding PTA, in addition, has shown commitment to the advancement of APTA TN and the profession of physical therapy.

Clinical Educator of the Year Award • This award is awarded to an individual who is currently serving as a Clinical Educator either at the PT or PTA level. This may be awarded to an APTA TN member who has demonstrated outstanding qualities in the clinical education of PT and/or PTA students. This recipient has contributed substantially to the clinical education of students and commitment to the clinical education of PT/PTA students. This individual has gone above and beyond in the efforts to make clinical education relevant to the practice of physical therapy and has demonstrated the capabilities to affect the professional lives of the students under their clinical guidance.

Recipient must be a full time academic educator in the PT curriculum in Tennessee and demonstrate exceptional ability to impact the lives of the students with whom they come in contact, and demonstrate the ability to go above and beyond what is expected as an academic educator with a commitment to classroom education of future physical therapists.

Special Recognition Award • This award goes to an APTA TN member who has demonstrated special service and contribution to the Chapter and/or District. The criteria includes holding an office with distinction (past or current) and providing extraordinary service to the Chapter and/or District by contributions to the Association and profession besides holding a Chapter office or Committee chairmanship.

Friend of the Physical Therapy Profession This award may be given to an individual who is not a physical therapist, but has demonstrated outstanding contributions to the profession in regards to PT/PTA student mentorship, the community at large, and/or legislatively. This individual’s leadership, acts, and support have contributed significantly to the improvement of physical therapy access, education, and/or advocacy on a local or state level. The recipient may be a resident of any state, but their contributions will directly impact the APTA Tennessee and/or its members.
