Overview of regional activities • Due to COVID-19, there will be no orienteering competition this year • Biathlon will be a run and shoot in November • Marksmanship will most likely be a postal competition this year • Expedition training for Silver and Gold stars will happen as a one day event in October • NEW ! Cadet Activity Program will start for Green stars during March Break. More news to follow.
Task Order from Cadets Canada • No cadets will be participate in on the ground training until NET Oct 1st, with approval from the regional office. • Virtual activities are encouraged at this time to keep cadets engaged. • No overnight components for the 2020-2021 training year. • International travel is unauthorized with the cadet program until August 2021. • The task Order is accessible to parents and cadets on the portal at https://portal-portail.cadets.gc.ca/
COVID related points from the Region • Cadets and parents must inform the CO if they have been tested for COVID and confirmed cases will be reported from the CO to the Regional Office. • Cadets will have cohorts, likes school in their star levels upon return to on the ground training. More information to come. • Travail within borders (Québec-Ontario) is approved as long as the travel time does not exceed one hour one way. • Attendance will be taken by the COVID Officer at the door upon arrival once on ground training begins. • Cadets unable to participate in any aspect of the program due to COVID shall not be adversely affected.
VIRTUAL TRAINING • Due to COVID-19 we are starting the training year virtually. • We are implementing a phased approach to virtual training to allow for adjustment and flexibility. • We will provide a quick overview on to how to access content and what you can expect. • We will also provide overview on training requirements and expectations.
PHASED APPROACH SEPTEMBER PERIOD 1 ALL STAR LEVELS 1830 – 1930 (1h) To get everyone situated into virtual training, learning has been staged. • September: 1 engagement sessions open to all star levels each Wednesday night. • October: Every Wednesday each Star Level will have 1 period at a scheduled time. • November: If we do not return to in person training each Star Level will have 2 periods scheduled. Timings are still being planned. NOVEMBER PERIOD 1 & 2 TBD TBD
ACCESS TO VIRTUAL CONTENT • Links to our virtual teleconferencing application “WebEx” will be available on the private Facebook group and on the cadet website. • Passwords to access the conference will only be provided on the private Facebook group due to security reasons. • If you can not access the private Facebook group you can also email footguardscadets@gmail.com requesting them. • It is critical that you have access or your parent guardian has access to the private Facebook Group. • Demonstration: Website/Facebook https://www.2784ggfg.com/online-training
TRAINING EXPECTATIONS • Due to COVID-19 there is a lot of flexibility on training requirements. • Cadets will not be penalized by being held back a star level for not completing all their star level training. • We hope to have cadets attend a minimum of 50% of our virtual/in person training over the entire year. • You attendance and participation will still impact selection for awards at the end of the year as well as training opportunities.
MINDFULNESS This year has brought many changes and we hope you consider the following: • Participate in online training as much as possible, your senior cadets are working hard to plan and teach you virtually. • Be understanding that sometimes technology has hiccups and we will do our best to resolve issues. • Ask for help if you need it. The program is here to support you in any way they can that includes senior cadets and adult staff.
In Person Training
IN PERSON TRAINING • Due to COVID-19 the Cadet program will not allow any limited in person training to begin prior to Oct 1 2020. • The unit is currently in the process of planning out a safe return to the unit plan which takes into consideration: • Masks • Sanitation • Social Distancing • New administration protocols • Safety Protocols • Other Health Canada guidelines. • We will provide more updates as the planning continues and share with you and your parent guardians what new protocols and changes have been made.
BUILDING REQUIREMENTS Due to our unit being a military facility there is an additional requirement for any person to access the facility. • A COVID-19 Awareness Course has been developed that must be taken by all adults staff, cadets, volunteers, and parents for them to access the facility. • We will provide an overview on how to access the course and where to submit your certificate off completion. • No person will be allowed in to the facility until their certificate has been submitted.
ACCESS COVID-19 Training This next section will provide a visual overview on how to access the training. This will also be posted on the 2784 Website. Step 1: • Go to the following link https://portal-portail.cadets.gc.ca/ • Select the language you wish to proceed in.
Step 2: • Select Login (left panel is for cadets/parents/guardians)
Step 3: • Login or sign up for an account. (There will be an activation link for new accounts)
Step 3 Continued: • Activate your account from your activation email.
Step 4: • Activate your account from your activation email and log in.
Step 5: • Click the Civilian Volunteer Tab.
Step 6: Access Course • Click on the Course and complete. • Click on the test to complete the course and get your certificate.
Step 7: Complete Course • The course is offered in English and French. • Follow the instructions to complete the 28 questions. • Once you complete click the proceed to print. • You don’t have to print the document but save a picture or pdf to your computer.
Step 8: Submit Certificate • Under Important Notices click the link to submit your course certificate. • Complete the form and attach a copy of your certificate. • Once the certificate is complete you will be able to access the armoury once we return to in person training.
ADMIN
ADMINISTRATION We are finalizing the process to conduct start of year administration. • Annual Validations: Annual Validation forms will be sent out to parents to complete. Completed forms will be returned with cadet and or mailed back to the unit, process being finalized. • Detailed Medical Questionnaire: If your cadet requires this we will send you the document. The completed document must be mailed out to the RCMLO*. Digital copies are not accepted. • Uniform: We are in the process of developing a protocol to be able to receive and exchange uniforms in a safe manner. More to follow.

Wreath Sizes & Pricing: ● 12” Wreath – finished size = 20” wide and approx. 5” deep Price: $20.00 ● 18” Wreath – finished size = 24” wide and approx. 5” deep Price: $30.00 Important Dates & Details • Orders due: November 10, 2020 • Wreath Pickup: End of November (exact date TBD) • Payment: All orders must be prepaid by Interac e-transfer • Pickup: Each family will pick up their complete order at a location to be determined. What Do You Have To Do Next? • Start thinking about who and how to spread the word to family, friends, sports and other activities groups your family is participating in, work colleagues, etc. • Think: e-Mail, Word of Mouth, Facebook, Instagram, Team Snap (or other team communication tools) • A flyer will be distributed no later than September 30th via email, Facebook page and GGFG website with details on: How to Order, Deadlines and Pickup Date. You can use the flyer to post and communicate our fundraiser THANK YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!
