Resuscitation Science Symposium 2019 Preliminary Program and Call for Abstracts Nov. 16–17, 2019 | The Philadelphia 201 Hotel | Philadelphia, Pennsylvania Sponsored by the American Heart Association Emergency Cardiovascular Care Committee and the Council on Cardiopulmonary, Critical Care, Perioperative and Resuscitation
Tom P. Aufderheide, MD, MS, FAHA Co-chair, Resuscitation Science Symposium “Now that we have we have restructured ReSS as a specialty conference hosted in a single hotel, we have a more comfortable and relaxed environment, increased opportunities for networking, international collaboration, and exchange of cutting edge resuscitation science ideas. Come and share the new setting, your discoveries for improvements in resuscitation care, and the excitement!” Benjamin S. Abella, MD, MPhil, FAHA Co-chair, Resuscitation Science Symposium “This year represents a new vision for the Resuscitation Science Symposium, to increase our opportunities for building an international community of scholars and students, improve networking, and increase value for our participants. Our goal is to create an environment to renew enthusiasm, build collaborations and friendships, and offer a forum for the very best of resuscitation science.” Follow #ReSS19 on Twitter @AHAMeetings.

With an increasing understanding of the shared pathophysiology between cardiac arrest and traumatic injury at multiple levels of biological organization, ReSS can provide a unique opportunity for transdisciplinary interactions that rapidly translate advances in the resuscitation field from fundamental to translational to clinical to population science. Learning Objectives At the conclusion of the symposium, participants will be able to identify recent advances related to • Treating cardiopulmonary arrest • Treating life-threatening traumatic injury • Studying cardiopulmonary arrest • Studying life-threatening traumatic injury Continuing Medical Education Accreditation Continuing Medical Education Accreditation—Physicians The American Heart Association is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education (CME) for physicians. Continuing Medical Education Accreditation—Physician Assistants The American Academy of Physician Assistants (AAPA) accepts Category I credit from AOACCME, Prescribed credit from the American Academy of Family Physicians (AAFP), and AMA PRA Category 1 Credit™ from organizations accredited by ACCME. Continuing Education Accreditation—Nurses The American Heart Association is accredited as a provider of continuing nursing education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation. Continuing Education Accreditation—Emergency Medical Services The American Heart Association is accredited by the Continuing Education Coordinating Board for Emergency Medical Services (CECBEMS). Who Should Attend? The audience will include emergency physicians, trauma surgeons, neurosurgeons, cardiologists, critical-care nurses, intensivists, emergency medical providers, resuscitation educators and researchers with basic, bioengineering, clinical or other experience related to treating cardiac arrest and trauma. Circulation continues to be top-ranked for total cites, Impact Factor, 5-Year Impact Factor, Article Influence® Score, and Eigenfactor® Score among 128 journals in the Cardiac & Cardiovascular Systems and 65 journals in the Peripheral Vascular Disease subject categories, according to the 2017 Journal Citation Reports® (Clarivate Analytics, 2018). Member Benefits • More than $5,000 in awards and travel grants available to professional members, early career investigators, trainees and students submitting abstracts to ReSS. • Members registered for ReSS are eligible to receive complimentary registration to Scientific Sessions 2019. Join or Renew your AHA Professional Membership at http://professional.heart.org/membership! Registration Registration opens June 26, 2019. American Heart Association members registering for ReSS are eligible for complimentary registration to Scientific Sessions 2019. You must become an AHA Member prior to registering for ReSS. Information on Registration and hotel will be posted on the conference website at professional.heart.org/ress. ReSS Highlights and Awards Special lectures and award presentations are included in the program: Young scientists in the field of resuscitation are invited to apply to attend the Young Investigator Networking Event, an interactive evening with senior investigators from around the world, on Friday, Nov. 15. Graduate students and clinician scientists or clinician investigators (scientists with protected time to do resuscitation research) within three years of their faculty appointment are encouraged to attend. The Young Investigator Awards, which are given to the top-scoring abstracts submitted by young investigators, will be presented during the event. There is no additional cost to attend the Young Investigator Networking Event. Information on how to apply, will be posted to the ReSS website at professional.heart.org/ress. Network with colleagues and experience the best original resuscitation science at the Abstract Poster Sessions, scheduled throughout the meeting. professional.heart.org/ress
The ReSS Best of the Best Abstract Awards will be presented for the top-scoring abstracts submitted to the Resuscitation Science Symposium. Two awards will be presented for abstracts related to cardiac resuscitation science, and two awards will be presented for abstracts related to trauma resuscitation science. To be eligible to receive one of these awards, attendees must submit an abstract to ReSS 2019 that is related to either cardiac or trauma resuscitation science, receive a top score for that abstract and be a member of the American Heart Association. The ReSS Young Investigator Awards will be presented for top-scoring abstracts submitted to the Resuscitation Science Symposium. Awards will be given for abstracts pertaining to both cardiac and trauma resuscitation science. To be eligible to receive one of these awards, young investigators (researchers/clinicians within the first five years of their appointment) must submit an abstract to ReSS 2019, receive a top score for that abstract and be a member of the American Heart Association. These awards will be presented during the ReSS Young Investigator Networking Event on Friday evening, Nov. 15. The Ian G. Jacobs Award for International Group Collaboration to Advance Resuscitation Science recognizes international collaboration among individuals over an extended time that has resulted in major contributions to fundamental or clinical science related to cardiac arrest or traumatic injury. The award will be presented Saturday, Nov. 16. The Lifetime Achievement Awards in Cardiac and Trauma Resuscitation Science were established by the Emergency Cardiovascular Care Committee in 2003 to honor scientists for their outstanding contributions in cardiac and trauma resuscitation science. The 2019 awards will be presented Saturday, Nov. 16. Established by the ReSS co-chairs in 2017, the Resuscitation Champion Award recognizes an individual who has demonstrated commitment to the field of resuscitation science through championing research and/or clinical improvements, supporting resuscitation scholars and serving as a passionate advocate for our field. This award is designated for an individual who is not a full-time healthcare professional, but someone who supports our field through their work in government, industry or public advocacy. This award will be presented Saturday, Nov. 16. ©2019 American Heart Association, Inc. 3/19DS14528
