JANUARY IS MENTAL WELLNESS MONTH Mental wellness is about how all aspects of your life—the social, emotional, physical, spiritual, and intellectual--all come together for an overall state of well-being. Mental health and wellness help determine how we act, feel, and think, and affect our ability to handle stress, connect to others, and make decisions. Even if you’ve neglected your mental wellness in the past, it’s never too late to make improvements. Mental Wellness Month is designed as a time for you to become more mentally resilient. You can learn to better handle stressful situations and negative circumstances that often occur as a part of life. Here are a few things to try: • stay active • spend quality time with friends and family • take a break when you need one • learn stress management techniques • eat healthy foods • get enough rest • engage in physical activity Please reach out to our School-Based Mental Health Coordinator Wendy Brousseau-Anderson at 715-852-3140 to learn more. 7
NORTH HIGH WEEKLY Friday, Jan. 7 NORTH HIGH SCHOOL 2022 -NORTH HIGH WEEKLY - JANUARY IS NATIONAL MENTORING MONTH A mentor is a person or friend who provides guidance, motivation, support, and serves as a role model. They can be a parent, teacher, coach, or a community leader. Take part in National Mentoring Month by having a Small Talk with youth on the dangers of underage drinking. Below are some examples of how different kinds of mentors can help. • Parents have the most impact on children’s choices about underage drinking. Being involved, talking, and setting an example are all ways to guide them. • Teachers can find ways to include alcohol education in their lessons, as well as how it can impact learning. • After practice, coaches can talk to their players about how alcohol affects their bodies and performance. Every mentor has a different relationship with the youth in their lives. Given those unique connections, everyone in the community has a chance to take steps to combat underage drinking. Learn more about the impact role models/mentors can make by clicking here. This information is provided by The Alliance for Substance Misuse Prevention coalition, which works to prevent alcohol, tobacco, and other drug misuse.
