Club Meeting Chad Porter delivered an inspiring presentation this past Friday based on his life story. He truly brought home the significance of being honest South Brunswick Islands with yourself and facing life with a positive outlook even when bad Meets at Ocean Ridge Plantation, things happen. Volume XI, Issue 28 Yours in Rotary Service, Friday, February 22, Clint 2019 Welcome: Vice President Clint Berry Program: A Report on RYLA Conference Invocation & Pledge of Allegiance Breakfast By Jennifer Hardee Vanasse on Thursday, February 21, 2019 District 7730 Rotary Youth Leadership Awards conference was held at the Trinity Center, Pine Knoll Sgt.-at-Arms: Introduction of Shores, the weekend of Jan. 25-27. Visiting Rotary Youth Leadership Awards (RYLA) is a leadership experience organized by Rotary clubs and Rotarians & Guests, Fines & Happy districts where delegates develop skills as a leader while having fun and making connections. Dollars District 7730 RYLA is specifically for high school juniors. Rotary Moment What are the benefits for RYLA delegates? Is it the TRUTH? Representing the South Brunswick Islands Rotary Club this year were: Nick Barber, Edward Fulwood, and Austin High, who will report on their experience there this Friday. 2. Is it FAIR to all concerned? Nick, while he says he doesn't participate in extra cirricular activities, is quite busy. He is involved in 3. Will it build GOODWILL and his church (Beach Assembly), holds down a job, keeps up with his studies, does Tae Kwon Do and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS? stays physically active. Nick is interested in either becoming an aeronautical engineer or a minister. 4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned? Edward is an Eagle Scout from Troop 201, the scout troop our club supports. He's an avid member of the FFA (Future Farmers of America), competitive on both the District and National levels. He enjoys Meeting Adjourned farmlife and the outdoors. Working with his hands doing things like welding and carpentry, bring Edward a great deal of pleasure. Edward also enjoys volunteering and being active in his church Rotary Club Greeters (Friendship Baptist). He aspires to have a career in the wildlife/ forestry field. Dennis Winters, Feb. 22 Lastly, Austin is no stranger to us as she has been involved in Interact and part of our Rotary family Janie Withers. March 1 for years. Aside from Interact, Austin is passionate about show choir. She also enjoys hobbies such as Bernadette Wolfe, March 8 reading, singing, dancing, and photography. She is active in her church (Beulah Baptist). Austin would like to someday become a forensic scientist and have a career with the FBI or other government

Now is the time to reconnect with school principals, counselors, speech/debate teachers, etc. to get Robert F. Stinson student interest for RAD, Rotary Against Drugs speech contest. Club Membership Chair The topic is, �What are the Causes, Effects, and Prevention of Drug and Alcohol Abuse�. This year's contest has been moved to Sunday, March 17, 2019. The location is James Sprunt Community College, Williams Building, Kenansville, NC. The registration opens at noon, and the Evan Potts speeches begin promptly at 1:00 pm. Club Membership Co- RAD began in 1992 by Rotary International President, Clifford Dochterman. It was his hope to have Chair high school students educate their peers about the financial costs, family suffering, the damage to themselves, and offering some suggestions to prevent abuse. Times have not changed, only the availability of drugs and the new forms that are produced. The South Brunswick Islands Rotary Club selects and awards from those WBHS graduating seniors John R. Mohr who apply: at least, two $1,000 academic scholarships, a $1,000 vocational scholarship, a $1000 Club Youth Services Interact scholarship and the Richard Lancaster Award (a $500 band award) to pursue a degree from a Co-Chair university, college, community or junior college.
