Garden Tour of South Africa Victoria Falls and Chobe, Botswana’s greatest National Park with Jane Edmanson Jane Edmanson is a well-known garden identity; she presented radio 3AW’s “The Big Backyard” every Saturday and Sunday morning for twenty-seven years. Jane has also been seen regularly on ABC television’s national “Gardening Australia” for the past thirty years. She writes gardening articles for magazines and has given talks on gardening during this time. Jane has been awarded the OAM (Medal of the Order of Australia). This will be the 29th year that Jane has accompanied garden tours for Travelrite International. Itinerary DAY 1 Saturday 21 March, 2020 Departure Our holiday begins with a flight to Cape Town via Johannesburg. Located near the Cape of Good Hope, the southern-most tip of Africa, Cape Town is a beautiful city surrounded by mountains, vineyards and beaches. The skyline is dominated by the dramatic 1000 metre-high Table Mountain, with its sheer cliffs. We are staying near the Victoria and Alfred enclosed secure shopping area. DAY 2 Sunday 22 March, 2020 Cape Town Upon arrival into Cape Town this morning, we will be met by our private coach and depart on a sightseeing tour of the city. We will see the Castle of Good Hope, one of the oldest structures in South Africa, the Victoria and Alfred waterfront and the Bo-Kaap area, a colourful mixed-race district. We then take the cable car to the summit of Table Mountain to enjoy spectacular views. This evening we will enjoy a welcome dinner where you can formally meet Jane Edmanson and other tour members. DAY 3 Monday 23 March, 2020 Cape Town In the morning we visit one of the world’s most beautiful gardens, the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens. We will enjoy a wine tasting on our visit to the vineyard. DAY 5 Wednesday 25 March, 2020 Cape Town The morning is free for you to explore Cape Town. In the afternoon we travel to the wine region of Stellenbosch. It is a place of great beauty, steeped in South African tradition, which has retained its 18th century charm. Some of South Africa’s finest gardens are found here, including Old Nectar, designed from 1941 by Una van der Spuy. Set on a wonderful site in the Jonkershoek Valley with mountains rising high in the background, the steeply sloping site has been formed into a series of terraces. The formal rose garden has views over wide lawn terraces, and the pergolas are wreathed in old roses intertwined with clematis.
DAY 6 Thursday 26 March, 2020 Knynsa This morning we depart Cape Town and visit the Karoo Desert National Botanical Garden. This 154 hectare garden is truly unique and cultivates and displays a broad range of arid and semi-arid plants. We continue to wilderness, where we will drive to the hilltop lookout called the Map of Africa, where we will have spectacular views. We continue to Knysna, the capital of the famous Garden Route. On our journey we will enjoy the beautiful coastline bordered by extensive lagoons, with indigenous forest and wildflowers. DAY 7 Friday 27 March, 2020 Port Elizabeth DAY 10 Monday 30 March, 2020 Victoria Falls This morning we enjoy a sightseeing tour of this magnificent sight. DAY 12 Wednesday 1 April, 2020 Chobe National Park Our second day on safari in the Chobe National Park is sure to be another day of great wildlife sightseeing and memorable experiences. DAY 13 Thursday 2 April, 2020 Chobe National Park Our final day on safari in the Chobe National Park is sure to be another day of great wildlife sightseeing and memorable experiences. This evening we will enjoy a farewell dinner to celebrate the end of our wonderful tour. DAY 14 Friday 3 April, 2020 Departure Today we are transferred to the airport for our flights back to Australia, via Johannesburg. DAY 15 Saturday 4 April, 2020 Australia Tour members arrive back in Australia and the tour concludes.
