envelop the streets. This holiday provides many guests of Mexico City an
inside look at the true culture of Mexico by paying respects to the dead as
well as the celebration of their life. Traditional food such as Pan de Muertos
(Day of the Dead Bread), Calaveras de Azucar (Sugar Skulls) and tamales will
be served everywhere from local kitchens to high-end restaurants.

STOFFEL VANDOORNE

For Stoffel Vandoorne, it became a question of ‘when’ rather than ‘if’ in his
quest for racing in Formula One. That ‘when’ occurred after he was called Car Number
2
up from his reserve role to deputize for the injured Fernando Alonso on the
Nationality
McLaren team at Bahrain in 2016. Belgian
Date of Birth
Vandoorne began his motorsport career at six years old in 1998 and earned 26 March 1992
his first race and championship victories in national karting series. He went on
to finish runner-u in the KF2 World Cup in 2009. During 2010, he went into
the F4 Eurocup series scoring six victories as he wrapped up the title with two
rounds in hand. He joined the McLaren Young Driver Program in 2013 after he
became the vice-champion with four wins in the 3.5 series in 2013.
Stoffel joined the McLaren team as their Formula One reserve for 2014 and
combined that with a maiden GP2 campaign with ART. He ultimately finished
second to Jolyon Palmer after four victories and 10 podiums. In a continuous
momentum, Vandoorne proved to be unstoppable in 2015 as he solidified
seven wins, 16 podiums, four pole positions, and five fastest laps as he
landed the series title in dominant fashion.
Vandoorne’s Formula One debut came in early 2016, when, deputizing for
Fernando Alonso, he scored a point in his one-off Sakhir outing. He combined
his reserve role with a season in Japan’s highly competitive Super Formula
finishing fourth overall after two wins. His biggest prize of the year, however,
was landing a full-time race drive with McLaren for 2017, stepping into the
sizeable shoes of Jenson Button.
As an F1 rookie, he scored 13 points to Spanish teammate Alonso’s 17 in
what was a tough final year of McLaren’s revived Honda partnership - and
duly retained his drive alongside the two-time champion for 2018.

A native Mexican, Sergio Perez Mendoza became the fifth Mexican to
enter Formula 1® when he debuted in 2011. Perez began his career in Car Number

karting with five champions before his single-seater debut in 2004 with

In 2005, Perez headed to Europe and Germany’s Formula BMW ADAC 26 Jan 1990
series for two years with success and then entered the British Formula
Three series. He then propelled into the international class for 2008,
where again he excelled and pushed him over the GP2 with the Asia
Series. After success in GP2, Perez only had eyes for Formula One for
2011.
He signed with Sauber for the 2011 season and crossed the finish line
seventh on his Grand Prix debut. After a bad crash during qualifying in
Monaco, Perez still finished out the year 16th with 14 points on the table.
After a successful 2012 season, Perez moved to McLaren for 2013 for a
quick year and then over to Force India in 2014.
Perez had a fantastic year in 2014 and continued with Force India into
2015 where he secured the only podium finish for the team that season,
but also vastly improved his qualifying performance. In 2016, Perez
placed third for both Monaco and Baku with a career-best seventh place
standing for the championship and gave Force India their strongest
season to date.
