It has been really appreciated. I really want to extend all our appreciation and special thanks for the enormous efforts of our staff, both in teaching and administrative roles, who work tirelessly to create, plan, arrange, organise and lead opportunities for our students. We have an amazing P&C, and families, who provide and support us with passion, expertise, energy and people-power to make a difference. I would like to thank the community for their willingness to act as partners with the school. I would like to thank those who have worked tirelessly on our P&C to support decision making and to raise funds. I would like to really express my appreciation and deep gratitude to the P&C members who will be moving on as their children now move into highschool. Everyone, please have a safe and very Merry Christmas, and enjoy some special time together. Staffing 2021 – Mr James Kelly has reported that he will be returning after his period of leave ready to start back fresh at the beginning of 2021 school year. Our School Administration Officer, Mrs Judy Stove-Wilson is retiring from Wallacia Public School after 17 years of service. She has been an outstanding asset to the school and we all wish her the very best with her upcoming future endevavours. Mrs Fiona Tritton will be leaving us this year to go to mount Riverview PS. Mrs Tritton has been teaching at Wallacia PS for the last 22 years. She has developed a lasting legacy here and she will be sorely missed. We thank her and are highly grateful for her service and dedication to our school, and we wish her all the success and best of luck with her next adventure in teaching. Please see her farewell response below further down in the Newsletter. We are welcoming back our sensational School Learning Support Officers in 2021 to help us provide extra support across the school. Mrs Checkley will also be providing support in our office as our School Administration Officer 2021. PBL Student Acknowledgement Day - We will be holding our special student acknowledgement day this week, on Wednesday, the last day of school, 16 December. This is our chance to celebrate and acknowledge all the students who have worked really hard with their work, effort and behaviour to achieve their best this term. All students who have attained a Bronze, Silver or a Gold badge level this term will be permitted to wear Christmas mufti on the day. They will be invited to the Principal Morning Tea prior to recess time to celebrate their special achievement personally with Mr Mason. We will supply a special treat for these super special students.
All Gold and Principal Award winners are also invited to join Mr Mason in the middle session (on Wednesday) for a very special fun session in the library. As part of our special session, all Gold and Principal Award Winners are permitted to bring in a personal electronic device to use during the special session. All devices must be brought to the office in the morning. The devices will be stored for safe keeping until the special middle session event is on, and then returned to the students before lunch for the rest of the day, as it is the last day of school. Congratulations to all our students who have demonstrated a strong effort to follow our school values to be safe, respectful learners. Year 6 Farewell - Our Year 6 Farewell will be on tomorrow night at the Wallacia Golf Club. The students have been invited to meet at Blaxland Crossing from 5.00p.m for some photos. The Year 6 farewell will start at 6.00p.m and run through to 8.30 p.m. Due to COVID-19 we are not able to invite parents into the venue at all. At the completion of the event we will guide students outside where we will need to witness a family member in person, where we can then send off the kids one by one. A big thank you to all the parents for their help to ensure we are able to go ahead and provide this event for the kids. Thank you to Mrs Norris for her special contributions and effort to get the venue available and organised solely for our use for this event. And a big thank you to Mrs Van Vliet for all her preparation and effort to organise and set this wonderful event, especially given such a difficult year for everyone. Fun Day – Mrs Van Vliet organised a really enjoyable fun day last Friday. Thank you for all the positive feedback around this event. The kids loved the sand and water activities and it was really great to come together for the Obstacle course and Colour run event. Kindergarten Orientation 2021 – It was really lovely to welcome and meet our newest arrivals for next year’s Kindergarten at our Student Orientation Morning. This visit was a great opportunity for the Pre-school children to meet Miss Carroll and receive an orientation to the school environment to support their preparation for starting school next year. We held our Parent Kindergarten Orientation Meeting via Zoom the next day, which despite a few technical issues, went really well and was well attended. 2021 Organisation – the first two days of school, 27 and 28 January are NSW DoE Staff Development Days. Students in Years 1 through to Year 6 first school day will be on the Friday, 29 January. Kindergarten will start later than the rest of the School 2021. We will conduct a Best Start Assessment with each student individually before they formally begin Kindergarten. The Best Start Assessments will be held on 1 and 2 February 2021. Each child has been given an assigned time slot of 45 minutes on one of these days where their child works individually with Miss Carroll completing this assessment. The students will then start Kindergarten with an early finish time in order to best support their beginning school journey. Their first Kindergarten day will be on Wednesday 03 February 21 from 9.00a.m to 11.00a.m. This will be the same for Thursday and Friday for 4 and 5 February, from 9.00a.m to 11.00a.m. The following week of Kindergarten moves from 8.30 to 12.30 for the Monday – Wednesday 08 – 10 February 2021. Then they will stay a little later 8.30a.m – 1.20p.m on the Thursday and Friday 11 – 12 February 2021. Then from the following Monday 15 February 2021 students will start fulltime days from 8.30 to 3.00p.m. They will need to bring their recess and lunch, and a water bottle, each day. Please see the table summary of key dates at the end of this newsletter. Warm Regards and Season’s Greetings Trev Mason

Goodbye and Farewell To an absolutely wonderful community I would like to say THANKYOU for all your support over the last 22 years. It is with great sadness that I leave, but it is time for me to go. I will be going to Mount Riverview Public School which is a much closer commute for me. My last day at Wallacia PS will be on the 16th December. It has been a privilege to work here with such wonderful children, dedicated staff, fantastic principal and caring parents. It has also been wonderful to watch the students grow over the years, showcasing their strengths that have been developed and nurtured at WPS. I will miss Wallacia, I have loved my time here. I wish every family all the best, keep being the wonderful community that you are. Love always Mrs. Tritton To all the students, staff and school community – I have enjoyed all my roles at Wallacia PS since 2003, first as a parent on the P&C, and as a staff member – first as an SLSO in the classroom, and for many years now in the school office. I have been honoured to assist the children and the caring staff of WPS. Very best wishes to all for the Christmas season and the future. I will stay in touch! From Mrs Stove-Wilson
K/1 News I just wanted to take this opportunity to sincerely thank our wonderful school community for another busy term of learning at Wallacia Public School! In Term 4, our kids have had lots of incredible opportunities for such a small school. We had the Henny Penny Hatching Program hatching 16 gorgeous little chicks in our classroom and caring for them for two weeks before finding them great new homes with our students. We have been busy in the veggie patch and are getting ready for (as the kids and I call it) the end of year Wallacia Harvest. So keep an eye out for vegetables the kids have grown being brought home. We were celebrating our apples this year until the cockatoos got to them one afternoon. The support and feedback regarding the Cycling Australia program we have participated in for Sport this term has been incredible, our kids have enjoyed every minute of this opportunity. Thank you for making this possible and making sure our kids had their bikes at school each Thursday. K/1 recently had the pleasure of meeting some new friends as the new Kindergarten students of 2021 attended our Kindergarten Orientation. It was a great session and all of the children had a lot of fun and were excited to be coming to school next year. To share a quick story, I always measure the heights of students in my class at the beginning, middle and end of every year to see how much they have grown. Ask your child if they can remember how much they have grown this year. The most a child has grown in K/1 this year was 7cm taller since day one of this year to now. Finally, Term 4 is always a magical time of year in K/1, as Christmas approaches and the students begin to decorate the Christmas tree, classroom and are keeping an eye on their cheeky elf Rosy Sparkles. I hope you have enjoyed hearing all about the Elf’s adventures in K/1. Wishing you all a very safe and happy Christmas and holidays! Kind Regards, Miss Talia Carroll K/1 Teacher
P & C News Hello Wallacia P.S families, It has been a crazy year full of ups and downs and the P&C would like to wish you all a restful, safe and happy Christmas break and New Year. We have certainly had to adapt and change the way we do things around the school as a P&C. We thank you all for your patience and support throughout the year and we aim to move forward positively in 2021. Special thanks to Mr Mason for accommodating to the changes and assisting with the Zoom meetings throughout the year. It is with sadness we see this year out farewelling two very important people within our school community. Mrs Fiona Tritton and Mrs Judy Stove-Wilson. Both of these ladies have made such an incredible impact on our children and families and I know that they will be missed by all of us. Thank you, Mrs Tritton, for being a teacher who has inspired and supported our children over the 22 years at WPS. Your compassion and warm presence will not be forgotten and we wish you the most wonderful of adventures moving forward at your new school. They are blessed to have you. Mrs Stove-Wilson, you are a friendly face who has always been there for the school and the community with a smile. Your caring and compassionate nature will be one we will cherish and we thank you for all that you have done for the school and our children. The P&C is made up of wonderful parent volunteers who have tirelessly supported the school voluntarily and when asked. This year we say farewell to Michelle Norris. The dedication you have for the school and all that you have done over the years has provided our students with wonderful opportunities and resourcing that will be valued in years to come. As a parent helper, a fundraising coordinator to a 'mum' just lending a hand when it was asked, we know that your presence will be missed and we wish you and your family all the best for the future.
As mentioned, our year has looked a little different and I am so happy that we can end the year providing the students and staff a BBQ lunch and end of year raffle. Thank you to all the members and their 'leg work' in enabling us to have this celebration and we hope that all the students and staff enjoyed their day. A big congratulations to the winners of the raffle and an appreciative 'shout out' to the businesses that supported this celebration, including Aldi Glenmore Park who donated the food for the BBQ. As president, I wish to thank in particular our elected members Donna Sweeney, Penny Thirkell and Tanya Martin for making my job that much easier. I wish you all and your families a Merry Christmas and restful holiday. To our members, without your dedication and commitment to WPS our ideas would not be able to come to fruition. I thank each of you and wish you and your families a safe and happy holiday. As for 2021, we will be having our annual AGM early in the year. As always, we welcome each of you to join the P&C and be part of a growing team dedicated to supporting our school, our children. Merry Christmas and enjoy your break over the new year. Be safe. Mrs Melanie Parsons WPS P&C President
