Dublin City University Profile Dublin City University is pleased to present our proposal to Universidad Iberoamericana Puebla, Mexico for the provision of an English Language Group Programme. In this proposal we will seek to outline our competencies in teaching, programme operations and student experience, and demonstrate that Dublin City University is a suitable choice of provider for this programme. The English Language School is based at the heart of Dublin City University’s main campus at Glasnevin, Dublin. Established in 1992 as Ireland’s first university language school, it has personnel of more than 40 full-time staff and a student body in excess of 7,000 per annum. DCU has extensive experience in the provision of language training on our Dublin campuses, on partner premises throughout Ireland, and internationally to partner universities. Programme Proposal Preamble: DCU will provide a training programme, lasting 4 weeks, to students of Universidad Iberoamericana Puebla. The training programme will include English language classes, Cultural Skills Classes, Host Family Accommodation, Social Activities (some fees may apply) and Career Development Classes. DCU will provide full pastoral care and support to students. Our proposed programme provision is as follows: Item Description Programme Type English Language and Cultural Skills Programme Programme Dates & Duration 4 Weeks Programme – arrival circa May 2020 Programme dates to be confirmed by Universidad Iberoamericana Puebla. DCU is flexible to suit the preference of Universidad Iberoamericana Puebla with regard to programme start and finish dates. We suggest arrival of students on a Saturday of May 2020. The students will then commence classes on the following Monday morning. Number of Students 10-15 students English Language Tuition General English Language Classes 20 Hours Tuition per week – 08:50-12:50hrs Monday to Friday International Classes with wide nationality diversity in each class We can accept students to the programme of following language levels: Beginner to Advanced Note – Tuition minutes’ components are listed later in this document. Tuition Delivery Premises Dublin City University (Glasnevin Campus) or St. Patrick’s Campus (Drumcondra Campus) Class Times English classes will be held in morning time (08:50-12:50hrs) Social Activities and Extra-Curricular Classes held in afternoons. Pre Arrival Testing Students will complete an online “Pre Arrival” test questionnaire as a means for DCU to understand student entry language level. In Class Testing Students will undertake regular in-class testing to assess students. Exit Testing DCU conducts continuous assessment as preferred method of language testing Certification All students will receive a Dublin City University certificate upon programme completion, certifying Tuition in English Language Training and participation in extracurricular classes and social activities. Student Mentor Ms Shima Yamanaka DCU Student Welfare Officer Shima will meet students on the first day of their programme at DCU and will be available to assist students with questions or feedback each day as required. Accommodation Host Family Accommodation - Single room provided to each student for x27 nights - Located within 15-40 minutes of DCU Campus either on foot or public transportation - Host Families are friendly and welcoming - Host Families have been inspected by DCU, and police checked - DCU will arrange families suitable to students’ personal requests – e.g. families without pets, non-smokers, families who can offer suitable dietary preferences etc. Note: DCU manages accommodation placements in-house – accommodation placements are managed by a dedicated DCU team and are not subcontracted to a third party. Meals Host Families will provide meals as follows: Mondays to Fridays – Breakfast and Dinner | Weekends – All Meals Social Activity Programme Daily Social Activity programme provided to students (afternoons). Most activities are free, though some activities carry a nominal charge for attendance. DCU will provide students with access to 5x Half Day Social Activities per week – including Sports, Cultural and Personal Development.

Information about the English Language School at DCU DCU Language Services (DCU LS) was founded by Dublin City University in 1992. The organisation provides on and off-campus language, professional development and cultural training services to a broad base of international clients. DCU Language Services is established as Ireland’s leading university language school with a total enrolment of over 7,000 students in 2018. The school offers a range of standardised and bespoke option programmes to partners. Examples of standard programme offerings include: - General English, Business, Exam Preparation, English for Academic Purposes and Teacher Training Programmes to adult language students, offered 50 weeks throughout the year delivered at our Glasnevin and St. Patrick’s Campuses. - Young Learner Programmes for students aged 17 years or under, offered 40 weeks per year delivered at our Glasnevin and St. Patrick’s Campuses. Our bespoke programme offerings include: Training in various aspects of educational methodology & practice. Bespoke programmes where English for professional or academic purposes is required. English and work placement courses for students seeking immersion to a workplace to develop professional English skills. Overseas and offsite programmes for partners, tailored to client needs. Location Our head office is based on DCU Glasnevin Campus - an attractive university campus set in a quiet residential area of the city. It is close to both the international airport and the city centre and is well served by public transport. The university setting provides a safe, welcoming environment with a vibrant international community of students and staff, and an enthusiastic approach to life- long learning and academic enquiry. The campus has modern, well-equipped classrooms and a variety of services and facilities in place for DCU LS clients to enjoy. These include shops, restaurants & cafes, theatre, sports centre, library, computer labs and an Interfaith Centre. 7
Accommodation Accommodation will be arranged with native English speaking home-stay families. Each student will be staying with a family to encourage them to practice their English and to immerse themselves in Irish culture. Two meals per day (breakfast & evening meal) will be provided 5 days per week (Monday – Friday) by the home-stay families when the students stay with them. On weekends Host Families will provide 3 meals or a packed lunch if students are going on excursions. A single room will be provided for per student. They look forward to meeting students and to helping students settle into daily life in Ireland. DCU has 780 individual Host Families registered with our university for the purposes of hosting international students. These families are located in the north Dublin area. All Host Families are inspected by DCU to ensure suitability and a family history check by the Irish Police (commonly known in Ireland as ‘Garda Vetting’). 8
Social Programme DCU can arrange a social activity programme for students if required. DCU is invested in providing a quality social programme for students which will enrich their social and cultural experiences in Ireland. Such activities range from sporting, cultural, communicative, class based games and workshops. DCU defines all school organized non-academic ‘experience’ activities as falling under the category of the Social and Cultural Activity Programme. DCU offers a wide variety of activities on the Social and Cultural Activity Programme. Such activities can take place on campus and off campus at various locations around Ireland. DCU provides a suitably trained guide / staff member for all activities. Half-Day Activities – Weekdays DCU operates a rolling timetable of Half Day Activities, taking place on weekdays. Attending students can participate in a wide variety of activities over the course of their programme at DCU. In peak periods DCU may offer a number of different activities each day. All weekend excursions are by private coach, and led by DCU trained personnel. Other Optional Programme Components DCU can facilitate a range of engagement activities if required: International Students’ Day An exhibition organised by DCU and delivered by students to celebrate international cultures. Students will introduce staff, students (Irish and international) and the local community to international food, culture and history. DCU will facilitate this event and assist students with their preparations for the occasion. Volunteering Opportunities DCU can arrange for programme participants to volunteer at one of the following partner organisations: -Dogs Trust (Animal Welfare) -DSPCA (Animal Welfare) -Age Action Ireland (Charity for Elderly People) -St. Michael’s House (Charity for disabled) This module can be facilitated and managed by DCU. Company Visits DCU will arrange opportunities for students of this programme to visit prominent business organisations in Dublin. Such companies may include IBM, Dropbox, Twitter, LinkedIn or Facebook. This module will be facilitated and managed by DCU. Programme Website Students can build and maintain a dedicated programme website as part of this programme. The website will allow students to interact with parents, friends and their home university on their progress in Ireland. Please speak to us if you would like any of these events to be added to the programme. Airport Transfers As students will be arriving in Dublin on different flights and on different dates airport transfers will not be arranged by DCU. 10

On certain occasions it may be necessary to change the programme timetable or activities due to weather conditions or other circumstances outside of our control. In such circumstances DCU will offer replacement / alternative activities of equivalent value. Customers are advised to avail of appropriate travel and health insurance. It is the responsibility of the customer (where applicable) to arrange student visa documents. Note – first meal for group is dinner on day of arrival, last meal is breakfast on day of departure. It is the preference of DCU to hold classes in the morning time for students. However, this may not be possible in all cases. Thus, the client should be aware that some of their classes may take place in afternoons. A deposit is required to secure a booking, with full payment required in advance of programme commencement. As this programme is a Group Programme and offers special group price discounts it will not be possible for applications to be made via our website. Applications can be made via booking form only. Payment is required 6 weeks in advance of course start date to ensure availability.
