Who Can Volunteer? • Students - Anyone who is currently a student at an M-DCPS school • Parents - Parents, guardians, primary caregivers • Employees - Administration, teachers, staff of M-DCPS • Community Members - Businesses, local organizers, M-DCPS alumni 9/24/2021 3
What Can I Do? Be a School Volunteer - Directly assist the staff at the school of your choice, regional center, or district office. Level 1 • The Arts • Library/Media • Classroom • PTA • Day Chaperone • Tutor • Vision/Hearing • At home projects Screening 9/24/2021 4
Policies for Volunteering • Younger children who are not registered are not allowed on school campus • Must sign in with Ms. Raisa Pardillo (security) • Must wear identifying badge • Volunteers must keep any information of a student confidential 9/24/2021 5
Classroom Volunteer Works with students in general subject area (Basic Reading, Math, Science, Social Studies, Spanish) • Assists with learning centers, games, and other areas. • Assists with computer-based learning applications. • Works with small groups on special projects. • Assists the teacher in organizing classroom. In the same classroom of son or daughter Only if teacher permits it If it does not interfere with the child’s learning 9/24/2021 6
Day Chaperone Assists the school and teachers in overseeing student on field trips. • Takes responsibility for a group of students as assigned by the teacher. • Ensures the safety of all the students. • Remains with the group during the entire trip. 9/24/2021 7

Listener/Oyente Program A program that trains volunteers to be non judgemental listener to a student selected by the school counselor. Through listening with patience and a kind heart, a student’s self-esteem will grow and you will make a difference in one child’s life, one student at a time. The training will help you to become a better listener to your own children. • Attend a minimum of 4 monthly 3 hour in-service workshops throughout the year. • Commit to a minimum of one student 30 minutes per week • Level 2 Clearance (finger printed) 9/24/2021 10
