Daikin and Waller Area Chamber of Commerce College Scholarship 2020-21 Sharing in the belief that education is the key to progress, development, and economic growth, Daikin, the world’s leading manufacturer of HVAC systems, and the Waller Area Chamber of Commerce have developed a partnership to increase awareness about the need for more math and science graduates. The scholarship program serves students pursuing careers in the fields of Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). Award: two scholarships of $3,000 each Deadline: Friday, January 8, 2021 Criteria: To be eligible to receive a scholarship, the applicant must: Be a U.S. Citizen Maintain a permanent residency in a zip code near Daikin’s facility in Waller, Texas, and served by the Waller Chamber of Commerce, including: 77484, 77447, 77446, 77445, 77355, 77377, 77433, 77493, 77363, 77423, 77868 Have been accepted to a four year university for full-time enrollment or is currently enrolled as a full-time student at a four year university Pursuing a science, technology, engineering or mathematics degree Demonstrate academic achievement in high school or college, leadership skills and/or community service in the area of science, technology, engineering or mathematics Selection Applications will be screened by a panel of Daikin employees, with finalists being interviewed by a group of Daikin employees, a representative from the Waller Area Chamber of Commerce and a local community leader. Notification of Winners Winners will be notified prior to the Waller Area Chamber of Commerce Annual Dinner, held in late January 2021. Winners will attend the dinner and be recognized at the event. Distribution of Scholarship Funds The scholarship will be paid to the university of the student’s choice to be applied to tuition and related expenses for the upcoming collegiate year. The University will receive $1,500 in the student’s name for the first semester of the school year. The second $1,500 of the scholarship is contingent on the student earning a 2.8 grade point average (GPA) for the semester. The student must provide a transcript to Daikin from the semester before the payment will be made to the University for the second semester. If a student does not achieve a 2.8 GPA the second half of the scholarship is forfeited.
