Email • We understand that e-mailing the teacher is a form of communication that parents often use. Please know that teachers have 24-hours to respond to these e-mails and phone calls. Teachers will respond to parent e-mails before or after school or during their conference period. If the response to the email involves student behavior, academics or other confidential concerns, the teacher will call the parent in lieu of an e-mail. • If you have an emergency or information that the teacher must receive during the school day, you are advised to call the school and leave a message with the receptionist.
School Hours • School hours are 7:55 am—3:15pm. • Students may begin arriving at 7:15 am. • Students arriving after 7:55 am will be counted tardy.
Arrival • Please use the drive to drop off your children. Students should never be dropped off in the parking lot. • If students are being walked across, an adult must cross with them and only at the crosswalk. • Parents will not be able to walk their students into the building.
Dismissal Bus Riders • Parents must register students online for bus services. • If you have a Pre-K or kindergarten student that is a bus rider, an adult must be at the bus stop upon arrival. Day Care • Please make sure you call your day care each day that your child will not be going to day care. Ex. If they went home from school or stayed at home ill. Car Riders • Please enter the drive from Fite Rd. Please make sure your sign is visible to the caller and pull forward to the cone. Your child will be directed to go to a numbered cone. With our younger students you can practice having your child recognize and answer to their name when it’s called.
Dismissal NeighborhoodWalkers • These students live in the West Oaks subdivision on the north side of our campus and will be escorted into the neighborhood entrance across the drive. Crossing Guard Walkers • These students live in the West Oaks subdivision on the south side of our campus. They will be escorted across Fite Rd. by the crossing guard and teachers.
Dismissal Changes in Transportation • Any changes in dismissal routine must be made by 2:30 p.m. unless a note was sent to the teacher that day. Rainy Day Procedure • All dismissal procedures remain the same. The only change would be for the neighborhood and crossing guard walkers in the event of severe weather. These students will be dismissed to parents from the cafeteria.
Breakfast and Lunch • Breakfast and lunch are free to all students this year. • Breakfast and lunch visitors are not allowed due to current COVID circumstances.
Birthdays • Parents may provide store bought cupcakes or cookies (in a package with a seal) for birthdays. You can also send in prepackaged snacks. • Cakes, or anything that requires a plate, juice, balloons, flowers… are not allowed. • Please consult with your child’s teacher about any food allergies in the classroom.
Be Respectful, Be Safe, Be Responsible • Please work with your child(ren) to be responsible in remembering what they need to bring to school each day. mask, device, water bottle, homework, backpack, snack, lunch, etc. • Please practice with your child(ren) on being self- sufficient and safe. Ex: opening their own car doors, tying their own shoelaces, and opening their own food, etc.

Grading Policy • At a minimum, all students will have 2 grades per week for Math, Reading and Language Arts (in the language of instruction). Additionally, at a minimum, all students will have 1 grade per week for science and social studies. Failing Assignments • Redoing Failing Assignments (assignments recorded in grade book) • Daily Work: After re-teaching occurs, students will have the opportunity to correct their assignment. Students may receive full credit up to a 70%. • Tests/Assessments: Students have the opportunity to re-do a failing grade and earn full credit up to a 70% on any test/assessment. The only exception to this policy is if a teacher chooses to delete the grade for the entire class, then the teacher will re-teach and give a new test/assessment to all students.
Language of Instruction • ELA/SLA alternates per week. • Here is an example of what that looks like: Guided Reading will also alternate the language of instruction for the week.

Volunteering in our School • Due to the current circumstances, we are not allowing volunteers at this time unless you are a member of PTA. • Information about fields trips will come at a later date if we are able to have one. CIS-ACE Program Overview The Communities In Schools After-school Centers on Education (CIS-ACE) program offers an opportunity for students to receive academic , homework assistance and enrichment activities outside of school hours. The program is free to qualifying participants with a focus on providing expanded academic and enrichment opportunities such as: •Tutoring and homework assistance •STEM activities: science, technology, engineering and math •Robotics •Culinary Arts •Health and wellness •Fine arts •Educational programs that reinforce the regular academic program. 27
