CONVENIENT & SAFE ENVIRONMENT International House is located on Royal Parade, just a 10-minute walk from the University of Melbourne’s Parkville campus and a 10-minute tram ride to Melbourne’s CBD. International House offers a safe and secure environment for students. The college has residential staff, security guards and electronic key system. Our students also have access to the University’s medical and counselling services. In case of emergencies, assistance is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. UNDERGRADUATE ACCOMMODATION International House provides a range of accommodation styles for undergraduate students. First year students have individual bedrooms with shared facilities on each floor. Female-only floors are available upon request. Returning students can apply for single apartments or shared apartments, which are allocated based on seniority and involvement within the community. ACADEMIC SUPPORT & PROFESSIONAL ENRICHMENT International House offers extensive academic support, including an undergraduate tutorial program, consultations with tutors, free access to textbooks from the college library, a 24-hour computer lab with free printing and multiple study rooms that aim to facilitate student learning. Professional enrichment, which includes mentoring, workshops, seminars and guest speakers, helps students adjust to tertiary learning quickly and gives them the support they need to excel in their studies. CATERING Meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner) are served daily in the Dining Hall and provide our undergraduate residents with a diverse and balanced diet. Our catering team is happy to assist students who have special diets such as vegan, halal, gluten free etc. Dining as a community is one of the best ways to meet people, catch up on news and stay in touch with other residents. From 2021, we offer flexible catering packages to suit individual needs and budget, which allow students to self-cater for some meals or select full-catering if that suits them. STUDENT LIFE International House is set on 1.5 hectares of land with beautiful gardens and is surrounded by 2 public parks. There are great facilities to play sport, including a gym and a multi-purpose court. Students can join the comprehensive sports program between the colleges and informal sporting events on campus. All residents have access to music practice rooms, an architecture and design studio, student lounges and entertainment areas. Students can be involved in a rich social and cultural program, organised by the International House Student Club (ISHC). Those who enjoy music or the arts will have opportunities to display their talents at one of many International House performances. There are plenty of volunteering and leadership opportunities available at International House, which helps our residents develop their skills an enhance their future employability. SCHOLARSHIPS International House has a range of scholarships for new and continuing students from Australia and overseas. Scholarships are awarded on criteria such as financial need, contribution to your community, or academic achievement. If you complete the scholarship application at the same time as your application to International House, you will be considered for all the scholarships that you might be eligible for. GRADUATE ACCOMMODATION Our graduate apartments are self-catering and offer graduate residents the perfect combination of private and communal space to live and study. There are over 60 graduate apartments, all fully furnished with private bathrooms and with/without a kitchenette. There is a communal kitchen, dining room and lounge on each floor for graduate residents to prepare their own meals and interact with other residents. Daily breakfast, a welcome BBQ and formal dinners are included in your fees. Graduate residents have access to a dedicated graduate study room and a common room, in addition to a library, a computer room and other common study areas, sports and recreational facilities at International House, as well as membership of the International House Graduate Student Association (IHGSA). The IHGSA organises social and cultural events and activities for graduate residents at International House to help them socialise, make new friends and build a support network. Graduate students are encouraged to take advantage of the academic and professional development opportunities at International House. These include weekly group-writing sessions; two academic seminars each semester at which a panel of graduate residents present on their research; plus employability seminars and writing intensives. Graduates are also encouraged to work together with the Librarian and Academic Coordinator to develop research and learning skills, plan their next steps, or access learning resources.
