“We know that communities are often the first to know about abuse, and that they can act as gate openers or gate closers in terms of help seeking. Become an Ask Me Community Ambassador in Sunderland and help us raise awareness and break the silence around domestic abuse. We still have some spaces left on our next Ask Me Community Ambassador training starting next week - email us if you'd like to take part! This free training is online and consists of 6 modules, with some pre-reading for each module and 3 group zoom- workshops. You need to attend all 3 zoom sessions to complete the training. Through the training sessions, you will be equipped with an understanding of domestic abuse and how to respond to survivors. This knowledge will enable the community to play an active role in ending domestic abuse. The course will cover: What we mean by domestic abuse and coercive control Different types of abuse and the different tactics that perpetrators use Prevalence of domestic abuse Victim blaming and societal myths about domestic abuse - the impacts they have, and how to respond Stereotypes and gender inequalities that enable domestic abuse The barriers that exist for survivors of abuse to access support Providing a supportive response to someone sharing their experiences of domestic abuse
The Community Ambassador Role Our next dates for the Ask Me online in Sunderland are: Thursday's 1st, 8th & 15th April, 1-3.30pm - you need to be able to attend all 3 sessions to take part in the training. If you're interested in taking part in the training on these dates and becoming an Ask Me Community Ambassador for Sunderland, please email us at volunteer@wwin.org.uk to sign up or for more information. Have you or someone you care for had the COVID-19 Vaccine? How did the NHS do? Alongside Healthwatch South Tyneside we are currently working with the NHS to find out people's experiences of receiving their COVID-19 vaccine in both the Sunderland and South Tyneside areas by asking those who have had their vaccine to complete a short survey. The results of this survey will be shared with the NHS to help them understand directly from what is going well, but also what else could be done to improve the delivery of the vaccine to local people. So, from booking your appointment to going along and receiving your vaccine, how did the NHS do?
This survey should take no longer than 5-10 minutes to complete. http://www.healthwatchsunderland.com/news/have-you-or-someone-you-care-had-covid-19-vaccine FUNDING OPPORTUNITIES Brooks Sports, Inc (Brooks Running) - Runners in the UK, and several other countries, are invited to submit enterprising ideas which have been generated during time spent running for a chance to receive funding to help bring these ideas to fruition. - https://www.brooksrunning.com/en_gb/runfulness-project/ National Lottery Community Fund - Grants are available for community-led partnerships in the UK to make changes in their community that they believe will have the biggest impact on climate change. - www.tnlcommunityfund.org.uk Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust - Grants for local community projects that reduce isolation and promote integration; supporting post-COVID recovery in local Armed Forces communities affected by isolation. - covenantfund.org.uk HM Treasury - Funding available to local areas to help invest in infrastructure that improves everyday life across the UK - www.gov.uk Department for Business, Energy & Industrial Strategy - Businesses and other organisations in England, Wales and Northern Ireland can apply for a share of up to £40 million to carry out feasibility and engineering studies into energy efficiency and decarbonisation technologies for industrial processes. apply-for-innovation-funding.service.gov.uk
