Level 3 1st December – Retail Opened 4th December – Hospitality Opened 18th December – Intercounty Travel Permitted Outdoor gatherings – 15 People Only No organised indoor events permitted
Make a Break for Galway • Campaign was suspended as Level 5 restrictions got imposed on Dublin • Hotels are reporting busy weekends • Very busy from the 18th December • Campaign restarted this week pushing: • Midweek Breaks between now and Christmas (Shop and Stay, Dine and Stay) • Christmas Vouchers / Gift Ideas • January & February Breaks • Content and offers will be pushed through makeabreakforgalway.ie and is open to all accommodation providers
Shop Local, Shop Galway • Campaign across the local radio, print and outdoor advertisement • Footfall – 38% increase in footfall from week 48 to 49. Week 49 2020 – 195,125 Week 49 2019 – 277,623
Christmas Lights • Lights have been erected across the city in partnership with local businesses • Lights have been replaced on the canals and in the Westend • New features have been added in the Latin Quarter, Salthill and the Westend • An Art installation has been added to the Galway Hooker on Eyre Square with lights of hope that can been seen across the city.
2021 • Tourism Taskforce will continue to meet as we look at the recovery of the tourism sector. • A Tender for a new Tourism Brand for Galway City will issue in Q1. €25,000 matched funding secured from Failte Ireland for the brand and roll out • A number of the events funded from 2020 Marketing (Tourism Recovery) Fund have been postponed to 2021 such as the Urban Walking Festival. This fund was designed to be flexible to allow for date changes depending on restrictions
Great Western Blueway • Applications for Platforms for Growth – Facility Centre for Water Sports Activities closes 18th December • 100% funding available for Sports Based Hub along the River Corrib • 2021 we will begin the process of the accreditation of a Blueway for Galway • 2022 will see a second application process for this scheme
Destination Towns • Tender will be issued for the delivery of the Destination Towns project • Project to be completed by end of 2021 • An outdoor museum that will tell the story of the Waterways of Galway and will better contact the walkways along the waterways
Salthill Tourist Office • The final dates for applications closed November 16th • Panel of 4 people will assess the applications (Ruairi, Brian, Failte Ireland, Industry Expert) • Successful applicant will be expected to be in a position to apply for Planning permission in 2021 • 7 Applications Received • Galway Maritime Museum • Salthill Electric Mobility Hub • Children's Art Gallery • Sea2Sky - STE(A)M Central Hub • LGBT Resource Centre • Changing Places (Accessible Changing Area and Community Hub) • Salthill Seaweed & Steam
Parklets • A2 Architects appointed to deliver Parklets for Galway • 11 Cycling parklets for Salthill Prom • 6 City Centre parklets • Expected delivery & installation Q1 of 2021
Leisureland • 2021 we will commence a scoping study on the site • We will look to see how best to develop & futureproof the site going forward
