Third Sunday of Advent/ - St. Clare Parish
From Monsignor Fran Cilia
                                            ___________________________________________

The Third Sunday of Advent carries the traditional name, “Gaudete
Sunday,” from the Latin word, “Rejoice!”

Today’s readings and the responsorial combine to share the same good
                           news:

“The Lord, your God, is in your midst, a mighty
       Parish savior” (Zephaniah).
 Mission Statement
Cry out with joy and gladness: for among you is the
great and Holy One of Israel. (Responsorial, from
  Founded in 1777, Isaiah 12)
Saint Clare Parish is Rejoice in the Lord always. I shall say it again: rejoice!
Your kindness should be known to all. The Lord is
an ethnically diverse near. Have no anxiety at all, but in everything, by
Catholic community of prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, make your

                           nationality or countries of origin.
We join the peoples of all of the

of the Lord to His people.

Happy Feast of Our Lady of Guadalupe!
We honor our Patron of the Americas, of Mexico and of Cebu, Philippines. My father’s family
compound was located in an area called Guadalupe in Metro Manila, and my family lived in Cebu City
for a couple of years during my youth, so my affinity for Our Lady began even before we immigrated
to the United States. I am in awe of the dedication and traditions practiced in her honor here in the
Diocese of San Jose. Her story inspires us to believe that no matter our place in society, we have a
voice and that she will work through us for the good of all.

A Lantern to Light the Way as we Conclude our 40th Jubilee Year
Represented by Student Council President Gabrielle G. and Historian Noah R.,
Saint Clare School and Parish received a lantern from Bishop Cantú at the

Our Last Week before Christmas Break
This week, we will see lots of celebration to Prepare the Way of the Lord including our Annual
Christmas Program. In previous years, we were able to gather in the church to hear each class present a
Christmas carol for parents and families to enjoy. Last year, our music teacher was able to piece
together students singing individually in their homes to make up the song assigned to their class.
Magically, it brought good cheer and gratitude for creativity and talent and sent us off merrily to
celebrate virtually with families and those in our bubble.

This year, our music teacher, Mr. Joey Medeiros, is able to record the whole class singing together,
with masks on. These recordings will be pieced together and packaged as our pre-recorded Christmas
Program. Families will get an opportunity to watch the recording at home or at a watch party under the
tent. Our PTG is facilitating this event so that our families can gather safely outdoors to celebrate
Christ’s birth on Wednesday, December 15 at 6 P.M.

                                       _______________________________________________________

 Buy clothing and products made from natural materials – wood, fiber, metal,
glass – rather than from plastics and synthetics/acrylics, etc. You might also choose
to focus on sustainably made products (compost-able phone cases, sunglasses made
                  from recycled ocean plastics, etc.)

 Buy local and buy quality; avoid fast fashion or poor-quality purchases. This will
reduce the carbon spent on transporting/producing goods, as well as the need to
frequently replace items. Consider reducing the number of gifts you plan to
purchase. Coming to an agreement with family or friends on a limit to the number of
gifts and/or dollars spent is a great way to reduce waste and take the focus away
                   from consumerism.

 Purchase fair trade products that support artisans, farmers and businesses in ways that help
            sustain employment and the environment.

 For wellness gift ideas, consider giving bar body soaps, bar facial soaps and bar shampoos.
Choose products that list natural ingredients and come in paper or compost-able packaging.
Some co-ops and zero waste stores even sell these products with no packaging whatsoever!

 Feeling crafty? Make your gifts from re-purposed materials. If you must buy new, avoid gag
gifts and instead focus on quality gifts that will last.

 For gifts that have a lasting impact, consider giving the gift of a donation or an experience,
particularly one that involves the gift of your time.

 Sending out holiday cards? Consider sending e-cards. If you still prefer print, search out
companies and organizations that offset their carbon footprint by planting trees for each
card order and/or commit to using 100% post-consumer waste for their cards.

 As you prepare for your holiday gatherings, consider reusable plates, cups, napkins and
silverware. Don't want to invest in more place settings? Pick up extra dishes at a vintage or
thrift store and keep them on hand for company. If you must use disposables, use
compost-able cups, plates and utensils; then collect them after use and compost at a Santa
            Clara County collection site.

 Recycle your gift wrap. This holiday season make a point to save all the bags, boxes, tissue
and wrapping paper that you can for next year. Fun fact: ironing your tissue can make it
look brand new. You could also get crafty and make your own cloth gift bags from
            re-purposed textiles!

 Expecting company for New Years? When serving your guests, remember to “underserve”.
American portions are meant to feed the eye, but frequently result in waste. Give portion
sizes that are adequate, and if your family or guests want more, serve seconds.

Israel.” Assim o diz o refrão do Salmo deste Domingo do Gaudete!
desordens e pecados do passado.
