7th June 2020 The Most Holy Trinity -Year A Sunday Masses in Level 1 After two weeks of no new cases we hope that following Monday’s Cabinet meeting the Prime Minister will announce that the country will moving into Alert Level 1 for COVID-19. This will allow almost all activities to resume including Church services with unlimited numbers. If this happens as expected we will return to the celebration of Sunday Mass on Sunday 14 June. That day is also the Feast of Corpus Christi (the Body and Blood of Christ) and what an appropriate day for us to resume gathering again as a Eucharistic community. We have already returned to the celebration of weekday Masses. Ordination of Deacon Trung Nguyen Yesterday, in the Cathedral of the Holy Spirit in Palmerston North, Deacon Trung Nguyen was ordained to the priesthood by Cardinal John Dew. It was a wonderful occasion for the Diocese of Palmerston North. Although restricted by numbers because of the present Level 2 alert, Deacon Trung’s ordination is a wonderful sign of the Holy Spirit working in the lives of young people willing to serve in the Church. Father Trung’s family were unable to come from Vietnam for the ordination so he was surrounded by his fellow priests and representatives from schools and parishes throughout the Diocese. He has been appointed as an assistant priest in the Catholic Parish of Hastings and we look forward to seeing him here in Hawkes Bay in the coming days. We warmly congratulate Father Trung and assure him of our prayers and support. Father Trung is the fourth sibling in his family to be ordained a priest. Thank You I sincerely thank those who attended the Working Bee in both St Patrick’s and St Mary’s last weekend. Although numbers were small the amount of work achieved both inside and outside the Church buildings has ensured that the Churches and grounds are looking pristine for the return to Sunday Masses. The St Thomas More community are having a working bee next Saturday 13 June in preparation for the return to Sunday Mass. Father Barry Scannell s.m. Parish Priest
