Marshall & Gail Agent Thoughts from the Pastor: Dr. Jim Ewing As we head into the Summer months, I’m so grateful for the faithfulness of the FBC family. All our financial needs have been abundantly met and we’ve been able to return to most of our regular activities like Sunday School, Youth meetings, Prayer Meeting, and JUMP. Despite the many challenge brought about by the COVID- 19 pandemic, God has met our needs and kept us secure. As I think about all that’s taken place over the past 15 months, I believe we’re seeing the promise Jesus made in His Sermon on the Mount come true: (Matt 6:33) “But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” No doubt there have been things I’ve missed or that were left undone ... but in His tremendous grace, and mercy, we’re doing well. Thank you all for allow God to work through you. Sunrise Children’s Services - As of the date of this newsletter, there has been no substantive progress in the discussion with Gov. Beshear’s office. If this issue isn’t resolved, it will impact Sunrise’s ability to place new kids in homes. While the response has been great across the state, I’m still asking our members to contact the Governor’s office and ask him to continue to protect Sunrise’s ability to operate---as they have for years---in accordance with their Christian principles. You can contact his office by calling 502-564-2611 or through the contact form at governor.ky.gov/contact/contact-us. Resuming Normal Operations - I am grateful for your patience as we spread out to new spaces to ensure the safety of our members and guests. Your cooperation was no doubt the reason we didn’t experience any COIVD-19 related issues. Starting Sunday, May 30th, we’re going to bring our Sunday School classes back to our regular classrooms. We’re already back to virtually normal operations in our worship service and we’re looking at returning to the regular offering process soon. Vacation Bible School 2020 “Rocky Railway” - We’re blessed to be able to hold VBS this year. Please keep our efforts in your prayers. The dates are June 14-18, 5:30 to 8:00 pm. You can register on our website home page www.calvertfbc.org Contact Janet Dietsch if you’d like to help. Veteran’s Fish Fry 2021 – This year, we’re going to hold the event on Friday, July 9 rather than in November. We’ll have tickets out next week. Joining with us will be folks from Altona BC, Pathway BC, Calvert City Untied Methodist Church, St Pius X Catholic Church, and First Presbyterian Church. If you can help, please contact me or the church office at 270-395-4600 or by email at office@calvertfbc.org. Sermon Series Update – Starting Sunday, May 30 I will begin a new, five-week sermon series: Time for a Spiritual Reboot? I’m not giving up on Romans ... we’ll pick back up after this series is complete. When we closed out Romans Ch 8, Paul had given us a great promise: For I am convinced that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor powers, nor height, nor depth, nor any other created thing will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord. It was the breadth and depth of those final two verses that led me to think that we would benefit by spending some time think about how those verses play out in our daily lives. The Spiritual Reboot series was born. I hope you’ll be encouraged and blessed. One final thought. We’re facing incredible social and political issues ... some of which run directly counter to God’s direction and design for mankind. None of this is a surprise to God. He’s not asleep at the wheel. In fact, these issues actually demonstrate the reliability of our Bible. Take a few minutes to read Matt 24. And as the parable of the Master and the Slaves (Matt 24:42-51) reminds us, our task is to stay focused on following God’s direction and continue being a light to a lost world. As we do, we can be certain that God will keep His Roman 8 promises to us. Together in Him, Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may Pastor Jim exalt you at he proper time, casting all your anxiety on Him, because He cares for you. 1 Peter 5:6-7.
