The Service for the Lord’s Day January 30, 2022 Prelude Fantasy Pastorale: Molto andante Franz Doppler Melanie Huang, flute Introit I Am the Way Douglas Kostner I am the way, the truth, and the life, says the Lord; no one comes to the Father except through me. Welcome Rev. Dr. Peter Bynum *Call to Worship Out of the depths we cry to the Lord. In the dry and desolate valleys of life, we wait for the blessing of God’s Word. Jesus says, “I am the resurrection and the life.” In him, a new life begins. He calls us to follow him, but his yoke is easy and his burden is light. Let us turn to him in faith, and live! *Hymn 69 I, the Lord of Sea and Sky Prayer of Confession God of great mercy, we confess that we have sinned against you. We speak as though hope is lost. We act as though death is the end. We do not see how you could possibly redeem the world, and this causes us to doubt your promise and your presence. Forgive us, Lord, in your steadfast love and mercy. Create clean hearts within us, teach us your holy way, and restore the joy of salvation. Leave us with your peace, do not let our hearts be troubled, and let us not be afraid... Silence is kept for prayer and reflection. Assurance of Forgiveness *Gloria Patri Glory be to the Father, and to the Son, and to the Holy Ghost; As it was in the beginning, it is now and ever shall be, World without end. Amen, Amen. Prayer for Illumination Alexandra LeClere Gracious God, as your Word is read and proclaimed, we pray that you will speak to the dry bones of our lives… speak to the breath that grows weak within us… and speak of your Way, your Truth, and your Life, so that in hearing, we may understand; that in understanding, we may believe; and in believing, we may follow you with courage and joy, to the glory of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
