The Voice March 2021 Leadership “We need a strong leader.” “Wherever you lead, I will follow. You’re the leader.” These are direct quotes of what I have heard over the last few weeks. And these quotes were not the only time I heard these sentiments. In the time from acceptance of the Call until now, I have had this conveyed to me numerous times. First, let me say “Thank You” and let you know I appreciate the sentiment. Second, and this is meant in complete LOVE (and with a big smile), let me say “PLEASE STOP.” I am NOT the leader of Hanover. Allow me to Biblically explain… Nathan was the LORD’s spokesman back in the day of King David and at that time David had the idea to build a Temple for the LORD. David went to Nathan and told “the leader” his idea. Nathan said, “Go, do all that is in your heart, for the LORD is with you.” All good, right? God’s chosen “leader” had spoken, right? The story goes on… That very night God comes to Nathan in a dream and, in so many words, tells Nathan that it is NOT His Will that David build a Temple for Him (see 2 Samuel 7 for the whole story). Nathan, who indeed was a VERY faithful follower of and spokesman of the LORD, was wrong. Nathan, using his own wisdom and judgment, gave bad advice. Only when the LORD revealed His Will to Nathan was a truly right direction indicated. Only God truly knows what God wants for His People. Nathan was NOT the leader of God’s People. God was and is and always will be the Leader of His People. Psalm 23:1 – “The LORD is my Shepherd…” Just as Nathan was NOT the leader of God’s People, I am NOT the leader of God’s People here at Han- over. God is the Leader of us here at Hanover. Nathan had to wait for a dream to hear God’s Word. We do not have to wait for a dream. We HAVE God’s Word: The Bible! Proverbs 9:10 “The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and the knowledge of the Holy One is insight.” Psalm 119:105 “Your Word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” Luke 11:28 “Blessed ra- ther are those who hear the Word of God and keep it!” The “leader” of Hanover Lutheran Church is not a person or a group or a way of doing things no matter how well-intentioned they might be. The True Leader of Hanover Lutheran Church is the LORD. This is His Church. We are His People. How does He lead us? He leads us through His Revealed Word: Holy Scripture! There is one other sentiment I have heard over these last few weeks and I’ve actually heard it more than the leadership sentiments. From an email I received: “We joined Hanover because it is a church that teaches the Bible…” Something I have known for years is that Hanover is made up of People of God who want to hear God speak! In His Word, the LORD will wonderfully guide and lead us. With this said, I as the “under-shepherd” of the Good Shepherd will carry this awesome pattern for- ward. I commit to teaching and sharing God’s Word and letting the LORD be our Leader in all that we do. To God Be the Glory and the Furthering of His Kingdom. For the last several weeks we have been discussing the Book of Ecclesiastics. Not an easy dis- cussion for the youth, but we managed to make it through and move forward just in time to start Pastor’s Sun- day School lesson on Galatians. For those that may not be aware, Pastor has asked the youth to follow along with the Galatians bible study for the next 5-7 weeks that started this last Sunday (2/21). For the first Sunday the youth met in the activity center, but will move to the family room for the duration. For Valentine’s Day we signed cards with a message of love and prayer to chil- dren in the hospital. A special shout out to Gavin Brown for personally taking them to St. Louis Cardinal Glennon Hospital. The cards were handed out on Val- entine’s Day to the kids. I am sure we made a lot of people very happy that day. We have planned a service event in coordination with the Old Church Committee on February 28th to help clean up the old church. If the weather permits, we will also be outside cleaning up the grounds. The youth can use the time for their service hours and to help the old church look its best. Anyone who would like to join is welcome. We have several other upcoming events listed below for the month of March. March 7th 2021 Family Game Night Come join us for a fun time of games, snacks and fellowship. Mom, Dad and kids are invited to the Activity Center March 7th. We will put an order form in the church office window, all of the youth will have an order form, or call Liz and or Mike Brown. March 8, 2021.
