ZOOM INTO WORSHIP ON SUNDAYS AT 10:30 a.m.
Please note carefully: A ZOOM link will be emailed with the worship bulletin, hymns and Green Sheet on
Fridays. You will need this link to ZOOM for morning worship on Sunday morning at 10:30 a.m. After
you click on the ‘blue link’ on Sunday morning, you will be admitted to a waiting room before the service
begins. You will “enter worship” during the opening notes of the organ prelude. The First Presby morning
worship service will also continue to be broadcast on the radio WCHS-580AM at 11:00 a.m. every Sunday.
Please remember to be very careful about “showing video” during morning worship, and thank you for
focusing on the worship of our Lord.
TUESDAY TREAT LGG THIS WEEK – SARAH RUDEN
Sarah Ruden’s most recent work The Gospels: A New Translation wrestles fresh
meaning from Christianity’s sacred texts in a startling new translation of the four
Gospels. Working from the original Greek text and within the context of the ancient-
Greco-Roman-Jewish era, Sarah does something new. Thousands of her word
choices differ from common translation, and footnotes provide essential pithy
explanations of her reasoning. If you wish to consider the sacred text in a new light,
please log-in to this special Tuesday Treat on March 23. Please use the regular

SATURDAY SPIRITUALITY CENTER IN THE SANCTUARY
This Saturday, March 20, the “Spirituality Center” is hosted from 9:30 a.m. – 10:00: a.m.
only in the sanctuary. You are asked to enter and exit via the Virginia Street doors.
Everyone who chooses to attend must adhere to the protocols: mask-wearing, social-
distancing, hand-sanitizing, and respect the time boundaries for physical presence with
others in the sanctuary, i.e. from 9:30 a.m. – 10:00 a.m. This Saturday, March 20, our own
Anne Moses, Preschool Director, will lead the experiential prayer experience on “Praying
in Color”. Please be prepared for entrance at the Virginia Street doors. Thank you.
YOUTH GROUP EASTER MISSION PROJECT NEEDS YOUR HELP
At their meeting on March 28, the Youth Group is assembling “Easter Baskets” for the guests at Manna
Meal. We are in need of the following donations for the Easter Baskets: Tissues (small size only), Socks,
Tooth Brush, Toothpaste, Comb, Granola Bar, Bar of Soap, Disposable Rain Poncho. If you would like to
donate, please contact Youth Group Leader (pastor) at rev.nancy@firstpresby.com. Items are needed by
Friday, March 26, and we want to make sure if we have 50 granola bars, we also have 50 disposable rain
ponchos. Thank you for your generosity and support!
LENTEN MEMORIALS 2021
First Presby is accepting contributions to our Worship Memorial Fund in honor or memory of loved ones.
Contributions received in the church office prior to Thursday, March 31 will be printed in a special insert
for the Easter worship bulletin. These Lenten Worship Memorials are used to beautify the sanctuary with
potted flowers for the Easter season and provide for special music. Thank you for your gift.
CEREAL SATURDAY FOR THREE MORE SATURDAYS
We’re up to 290 boxes of cereal collected in the Chapel on the way to our
“Mountain of Cereal Love.” Be greeted by two members of the Mission and
Witness Committee this Saturday, March 21 from 9:30 a.m. -10:30 a.m.
(one hour only) with our in-and-out food fun act of service at First Presby.
Local food pantries are the beneficiaries of our generosity. The pandemic
has created significant food insecurity in our local community. Thank you!
MORNING AND EVENING PRAYER
Every morning at 9:00 a.m. and every evening at 9:00 p.m. we gather to pray on Facebook
Live. (Morning and Evening Prayer hosted Monday through Saturday every week.) Make sure
your Facebook Settings allow live notifications from First Presbyterian Church, Charleston, WV
to access the praying community. A “Prayer Guide” for our regular prayers is emailed on
Tuesday afternoon. Any changes to the Prayer Guide please email to Emily Burdette at
emily@firstpresby.com. Thank you.
YOUTH GROUP SUNDAYS IN MARCH
Last Sunday we celebrated Pi Day with Pi Games, Pi Eating, and Pi
Photos (see left). It was a delicious evening of pizza pie, apple pie,
chicken pot pie, brownie mint pie, banana cream pie, and peanut
butter pie. Thank you to Janet Chambers, Justin Gunnoe, Ginna
Taylor and Pastor Nancy for contributing pie to our festivities!
This Sunday, March 21, we are traveling to the Huntington
Museum of Art, and after visiting a local root beer stand for
dinner. We meet in the church parking lot at 2:30pm for the road
trip to Huntington, and will return by 7:30 p.m. RSVPs are
required, and have been received.
Next Sunday, March 28 we are mission-focused with Easter
baskets and sandwich-making for Manna Meal, in addition to prep
work for the Easter Egg Hunt at First Presby on the Preschool
Playground on Sunday, April 4. We are receiving donations of
items for this meeting – please read your electronic newsletter
First Presby Press.
Every week an email is sent to the parents of middle schoolers
and high schoolers, and if you would like to be included, please
contact Emily Burdette, Office Manager, at emily@firstpresby.com.
Youth Leaders include Reverend Dr. Nancy Kahaian, Taylor Raab,
Justin Gunnoe and his father Gary, and often other assorted
responsible adults! Thank you for your support of Youth Ministry!
THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE
In April 2021, two wonderful, dedicated First Presby
staff people will retire, and we thank God for their
many years of exceptional service on staff. On
Saturday, April 3, there will be a drive-through
“Appreciation Celebration” for Ginna Taylor (First
Presby Preschool) from 10:30am-12noon. Two
weeks later, on Saturday, April 17, from 10:30am-
12noon, there will be a drive through the breezeway
“Appreciation Celebration” for Janet Chambers
(Christian Education). A “Love Gift” for each staff
member is being received in the church office. Come
and thank each guest of honor (Ginna/Janet) for
their faithful service as a member of the staff!
FESTIVAL OF FAITH
Festival of Faith is coming up on Saturday, March 20, 2021 via ZOOM. The keynote this year will be “Telling
Stories of Jesus” with Diana Butler Bass which will focus on her upcoming book Freeing Jesus and the power
of telling the story of Jesus in authentic, personal ways. Other Festival of Faith Workshops include: Deeper
Diver with Diana Butler Ross, Financial Report, Intergenerational Ministry, Keep that Sense of Humor,
Playing with Your Congregation, Fibers of Faith, Financial Reporting and Church Treasurers, Beyond the
Business: The Spiritual Life of Ruling Elders, “…the Women in Matthew’s Genealogy” – PW 2021-2022 Bible
Study, Clerk of Session in the Small Church, and more. For complete workshop and registration

PRESCHOOL REGISTRATION ON A ROLL
First Presby Preschool registration has begun! Church Families may now register online on our webpage at
preschool.firstpresby.com and may choose an option to enroll in our half-day or full-day program. The
full-day program runs from 7:45 a.m.-5:00 p.m. Monday-Thursday with pick-up times anytime between 3:00
p.m.-5:00 p.m. The half-day program runs Monday-Friday from 7:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m. We are very excited
for all of the new changes of the program, including our Education Building Refresh and Renew Project.
