Bayes Coachlines Travel Club Taranaki Garden Festival Tour 2021 5 NIGHTs / 6 DAYS TUESDAY 2 NOVEMBER – SUNDAY 7 NOVEMBER Join us on a breath-taking expedition to one of New Zealand’s premiere garden events, the “Taranaki Garden Festival” 2021. We will venture down county and enjoy a night at one of our most iconic hotels, Chateau Tongariro, before travelling the Forgotten Highway to the vibrant town of New Plymouth. Here we will spend three nights to view some of the most stunning public and private gardens showcased in this spectacular Spring celebration.
Day 1 – Auckland to National Park After our morning pick-ups, we venture South in our luxury touring coach, relaxing and taking in the sights along the way. We plan to make a brief lunch stop in the ‘Kiwiana’ town of Otorohonga before continuing South to our first garden visit, “Bradleys Garden” in Taumaranui. Bradleys Garden is a meandering landscaped garden established in 1994 and has evolved over time to a space of peace and tranquility. Take time to meander through the different ‘rooms’ of the garden and enjoy a lovely Devonshire Tea. From here, we make our way to our first night’s accommodation, Chateau Tongariro Hotel. Surrounded by the sacred peaks of Mt Ruapehu, this Hotel exudes a timeless elegance and is steeped in rich New Zealand heritage. Chateau Tongariro Hotel D Day 2 – National Park to New Plymouth This morning we enjoy a fully cooked breakfast before checking out of the Chateau and continuing our adventure towards Taranaki. Our travels will take us via the ‘Forgotten Highway’, remote and mysterious to the extreme – NZ’s oldest ‘highway’. Enjoy lunch (at your own expense) at the Whangamomoana Hotel, famous for its grand old feel and big country meals. With full bellies, we will then continue via the town of Stratford, named after William Shakespeare’s birthplace, and onto our accommodation for the next three nights, the Plymouth International Hotel. Plymouth International Hotel BD Day 3 – Taranaki Garden Festival Visits After a relaxing breakfast, we will head off and begin our ‘Garden Spectacular’ appointments to enjoy the explosion of Spring and Festival events. The gardens we visit will be confirmed once the official Programme is made available to us (mid-August). As our regulars know, we like to vary the gardens each year, so we have opportunity to see as many different gardens as possible. Plymouth International Hotel BD

Same as yesterday, Lunch will be enjoyed at one of the venues (at your own expense) to break up the day and let you “put your feet up” and take in all the beauty around you. Plymouth International Hotel BD Day 5 – New Plymouth to Hamilton Sadly, today is our last day in the ‘Naki’ but our adventure is not over yet! We still have more to explore as we make our way back towards home. After a fully cooked breakfast, we check out of our Hotel and board our luxury coach for another comfortable ride in the countryside. Our North-bound adventure takes us via the West Coast, through the Mt Messenger Tunnel and past the small towns of Piopio and Te Maupaura to the wonderful home and garden of Jill and Leo Mouat. ‘Aramatai Gardens’ is a peaceful garden planted to encourage birds and includes two ponds connected by a waterfall, vegetable garden, herb garden and orchard. Included in our visit is a light lunch hosted by Jill. From here we make our way to Hamilton where we spend our final night at the Heartland Hotel.
