Hi {{ contact.FIRSTNAME }},

We are excited to announce the first annual DMV Women’s
Hockey Mashup Tournament at the Laurel Ice Gardens,
September 17th-19th. The tournament’s goal is to bring
together the community to kick off the winter season and
highlight the amazing opportunities in the area to play the sport
we all love. The tournament will feature a weekend of fun-filled
hockey, an 80's vs. 90's All Star game, an opportunity to get your
friends who don’t play hockey on the ice, and a tailgate
featuring the best of women’s hockey. For more information
about the weekend events click here.

teams and leagues in the area. Whether you recently picked up

Mid-Atlantic Women’s Hockey League (MAWHL)
Established in 1975, MAWHL (Mid-Atlantic Women’s Hockey
League) is the oldest continuously active women’s ice hockey
league on the East coast. Their goal is to provide a place for
women to play ice hockey in a competitive and friendly
atmosphere.

There are currently two divisions: Senior C and Senior D. The C
level provides an opportunity for women who may have played
prep or varsity high school, non-varsity college (ACHA), NCAA
college, or have 10+ years of women’s adult hockey playing
experience. D players typically have at least 2-3 years of
experience and are looking for a higher level of competition than
a ‘Learn to Play’ league. The D level provides an opportunity for
women to develop their skills and have fun playing a game they
love!

If you do not currently play on a women’s team but are
interested in joining a MAWHL team please contact
MAWHLboard@gmail.com and check out the DMV Women’s
Hockey Tailgate Party on September 18 from 4:00-6:00 p.m. at
The Gardens Ice House.

We had a chance to chat with Jen Birsa and hear her hockey
story!

1. When did you start playing hockey?
I was in my mid-forties when I decided to take the leap and play
the game. My husband had joined a low-level hockey team and
convinced me to join. I immediately loved it and was hooked.

2. Where do you currently play?
I currently play for Sharks and in the Women's Silver Division at
Gardens Ice House.

3. What is your favorite hockey memory?
My favorite memory is playing in Women's Gold for a few years. It
was lightning fast, and the women were always encouraging and
supportive with an old timer like me. And, scoring a goal in that
league was truly special
