Prelude – Adesto, sancta Trinitas and O lux, beata Trinitas, Gerald Near INTRODUCTORY RITES Processional Hymn – Holy, Holy, Holy, Lord God Almighty! Please stand Invocation Penitential Act—Lord Have Mercy, Palestrina, arr. Stevens Sung: Kyrie Eleison, Christe Eleison, Kyrie Eleison
THE LITURGY of the WORD First Reading – Deuteronomy 4:32-34, 39-40 Moses said to the people: "Ask now of the days of old, before your time, ever since God created man upon the earth; ask from one end of the sky to the other: Did anything so great ever happen before? Was it ever heard of? Did a people ever hear the voice of God speaking from the midst of fire, as you did, and live? Or did any god venture to go and take a nation for himself from the midst of another nation, by testings, by signs and wonders, by war, with strong hand and outstretched arm, and by great terrors, all of which the LORD, your God, did for you in Egypt before your very eyes? This is why you must now know, and fix in your heart, that the LORD is God in the heavens above and on earth below, and that there is no other. You must keep his statutes and commandments that I enjoin on you today, that you and your children after you may prosper, and that you may have long life on the land which the LORD, your God, is giving you forever." Responsorial Psalm – Psalm 33:4-6, 9, 18-20, 22 Second Reading – Romans 8:14-17 Brothers and sisters: For those who are led by the Spirit of God are sons of God. For you did not receive a spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you received a Spirit of adoption, through whom we cry, “Abba, Father!” The Spirit himself bears witness with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, then heirs, heirs of God and joint heirs with Christ, if only we suffer with him so that we may also be glorified with him. Gospel Alleluia – Revelation 1:8 Please stand
Verse: Glory to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit; to God who is, who was, and who is to come. Gospel – Matthew 28:16-20 The eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain to which Jesus had ordered them. When they all saw him, they worshiped, but they doubted. Then Jesus approached and said to them, "All power in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go, therefore, and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, until the end of the age." The Miracle of the 2020-21 School Year by STCS Principal Brian Wheeler This week we celebrated our 8th grade graduates, the STCS Class of 2021. I was able to address the 8th grade class and their parents at the graduation dinner the day before the big event on Friday evening. It was a most lovely evening. A room full of proud parents and exuberant graduates with their smiling faces is as fine a sight as one can see in any given year, but this year after 15 months of a pandemic, it was especially wonderful. The kind of wonderful that glows in the memory, that brings a smile to the face, warms the heart, and connects those who were there in a very special way. Such a night is a special gift, after more than a year of COVID-19 one might call it a miracle. Brian Wheeler STCS Principal Albert Einstein once said, “There are two ways to live your life. One is as though nothing is a miracle. The other is as though everything is a miracle.” Without a doubt, this school year has been a miracle. In fact, as Einstein suggests, everything in this crazy year of COVID has been a miracle. This is my first year as principal at St. Theresa's Catholic School, and though the pandemic prevented me from getting to know all of our students as well as I would have liked, I feel very blessed to be your principal. I wish to express how truly grateful I am for how welcoming and respectful the students have been to me. Moreover, I wish to thank you for your trust and fortitude while attending STCS this year. You have endured masks all year long, plastic desk cubicles, remote learning, quarantines, cancelled activities and lost sports seasons… really, it’s been a lot! In fact, it’s been overwhelming at times. And yet, here you are… joyful to have been here this year and ready for the next year ahead at STCS. You are all a very resilient group of young people, and in just five more days you will be able to exclaim, like our 8th graders yesterday, "We made it!" The miracle of the 2020-21 school year is a sign of how we ought to take heed from Mr. Einstein and embrace every mo- ment as a miracle, no matter the circumstances. It is no less than what every saint who has ever lived has told us as well. The problem sometimes is that we immediately think of one of many miracles shared with us through Sacred Scripture, such as the multiplication of the loaves and fish, or Moses and the burning bush, or the raising of Lazarus from the dead to name a few. These miracles are like brilliant flashes of lightning, the potency of which is immediate and cannot be ignored. However, actual lightning is only the magnificent manifestation of the electrical energy that is ever-present in the air. So, it is with miracles. They are ever-present in our world and surround us each day. A star shines. A seed grows. A flower blooms. A bird flies. A baby is born. To see a sunrise. To feel the breeze. To hold a hand. To hear the laughter of a child. To think. To wonder. To learn. To love. To live. Recognizing these and all the thousands upon thousands of miracles that happen each day are what made this school year a miracle. Here's to looking forward to another school year of God's ever-present miracles this fall.
