The Great Commandment Gospel of Matthew: “Teacher, which is the great commandment in the Law?” And he said to him, “You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind. This is the great and first commandment. And a second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” The law of God comes from the love of God, and our love of God is expressed in obedience to his law, of- Advertiser spotlight Local businesses and sponsors that advertise in our Bul- fered out of a wholehearted love for God. letin make our bulletin possible and at no cost to the par- "If you truly want to help the soul of your neighbor, ish. Divine Mercy Hour The Feast of Divine Mercy is for souls open to receive Christ's forgiveness and grace; for the lost, that they might be found; and for those struggling to grow in faith, hope, and love, that they might be refreshed and strengthened. St. Mary will have a Holy Hour, at 3:00 pm today, during which there will be exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, the Divine Mer- cy Chaplet, time for quiet prayer and Benediction. All are en- couraged to come! Catholic Q & A Where did the feast of Divine Mercy come from? If you were born well before the year 2000, you know the feast of Di- vine Mercy has not always been celebrated in the Church. In the early 1900s, a young Polish nun began receiving private revelations. Jesus ap- peared to her during her times of prayer, speaking a message of mercy and love for the world. She received a set of prayers — the Divine Mercy Chaplet — and the request to have a feast day established to remind the Church of the mercy of God. St. Faustina died in 1938, on the cusp of war and in the midst of one of the most violent centuries in the history of the world. Her story and her diaries began circulating in Poland and beyond. It quickly became apparent that this was a holy young women, and the cause for her canonization opened. In the year 2000, she was canon- ized by the first-ever Polish pope, St. John Paul II. On her canonization day, he established the second Sunday of Easter as Divine Mercy Sun- day, “a perennial invitation to the Christian world to face, with confi- dence in divine benevolence, the difficulties and trials that mankind will experience in the years to come.” All of the beautiful Easter Flowers in the church represent a loved one.
