Executive Board Greetings! Founder/President Joseph Standing Bear Schranz On September 20th and 21st, 2014, Midwest SOARRING Foundation will hold it’s 20th Ojibwe Annual Harvest Pow Wow in Naperville, Illinois. A Pow Wow is a cultural gathering Vice President of Education and celebration open to everyone. At our Pow Wow, visitors can experience the Myles Goddard Native American culture through drumming, dancing, arts and crafts, cultural Ojibwe demonstrations and native food. Highlights include a showcase of native artwork, Vice President of Operations award winning native flute playing, special exhibition dances, a tipi and Elm bark Janet Sevilla wigwam display, and an exhibit of rehabbed birds of prey including Deshka, the Secretary American Bald Eagle. Other activities include raffles, storytelling, games, crafts, and Jay Thompson the opportunity to make an arrowhead! Treasurer Midwest SOARRING Foundation is a not-for-profit, 501(c)3 Native American Karren Self Organization. The Pow Wow is our main fundraising event which helps fund our Board Members many programs. Due to the economic climate, we are in need of raising funds to Bill Torsberg provide for this annual event, thus we are asking for your support. Attached is our Leigh Edwards 2014 Sponsorship Packet highlighting a variety of ways you can help. Donations George Mendez are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by law. The Pow Wow’s average Nina Gilhang United Houma Nation attendance is 5,000 to 6,000 people and includes guests not only from the local Lynn Anderson area, but from the greater Midwest and beyond. Our event is a great way to market your brand name. Associate Board Members Tom Anderson Midwest SOARRING Foundation assists in repatriation, protection of sacred sites, Nick Roche environmental issues, and educating the public about Native American culture, Brian Boston important to our history and identity. We have shared our culture at the Annual David Nordin Chicago Flower and Garden Show in 2000 where we won the top two awards, and at Brookfield Zoo’s Rhythm and Roots Festivals, the first event at the zoo to highlight Advisory Board Pemina Yellow Bird Native American culture. We act as consultants to Brookfield Zoo and have helped Three Affiliated Tribes with the exhibit design of the new Great Bear Wilderness. Our foundation provides Mandan/Arikara/Hidatsa cultural presentations to numerous scout groups, schools, park districts, and other Starr Bresette organizations. During the holidays we provide propane, clothing, holiday gifts, and Ojibwe food to underprivileged families on various reservations. Ivan Dozier Our office and cultural center is located in Westchester, Illinois, which provides a Southern Cherokee venue to share our rich culture through programs, lectures, teachings, and a garden Ron Dozier of plants used for food, healing, and ceremony. This spring we will begin Phase II of Southern Cherokee our plans to build a recreated Native American village for educational and tourism Melanie Minafore purposes.
