The Series will be run in accordance with Government and RYA Guidelines relating to the COVID-19 pandemic applicable at the
time of each regatta.
Additional Crew restrictions and social distancing rules may be in place.

2. Dates Racing will be on Saturday 29th May and Sunday 30th May 2021.
3. Registration Registration will be at the Royal Southern Yacht Club between 1630 and 1800 on Friday 28th May and
last minute between 0800 and 0830 on Saturday 29th May.
4. Rules The event will be governed by the rules as designed in the Racing Rules of Sailing (RRS).
The Open Sports Classes will race under IRC Rules and each boat must have a valid current IRC
Rating. IRC Rules Parts A, B & C will apply.
22.4.2 is deleted and replaced by ‘The maximum number of crew that may sail aboard a boat shall be
80% of the Crew Number printed on her IRC Certificate. There is no weight limit. There is a
maximum crew of 6 for boats who don’t have an IRC rating’.
Safety and Communications: Boats shall comply at least with the latest World Sailing Regulations for
Category 4 races and carry working VHF radio with all usual marine channels including M1 (37A) and
M2.
Boats shall comply with Southampton and Portsmouth Harbour Byelaws where applicable. In
particular, attention is drawn to ABP Southampton Notice to Mariners No 09 of 2021 – available at

This Notice of Race may be changed by Amendment or by the Sailing Instructions. In the event of
conflict, the Sailing Instructions (Sis) shall prevail. This changes Rule 63.7.
By taking part in racing, each competitor agrees and acknowledges that they are responsible for
complying with any regulations in force from time to time in respect of COVID-19, and for complying
with the COVID-19 procedures of the Royal Southern Yacht Club (RSrnYC). The most recent RYA

5. Eligibility Yachts of X-Yachts Design and Origin.
6. Classes (a) Open Family Class – open to all models of all sizes. Boats are restricted to the use of only
one mainsail and one headsail per race. Class Flag: International Code Pennant Numeral 4.
A maximum of 4 races are scheduled.
(b) Open Sports Classes – open to all models of all sizes under IRC. Sail wardrobe permitted as
declared for IRC Rating. International Code Pennant Numeral 2 or 3, depending on IRC
Rating. A maximum of 5 races are scheduled.
Classes may be sub-divided according to entry levels.7. Advertising Boats may be required to display advertising chosen and supplied by the organising authority in
accordance with ISAF Regulation 20.
8. Race Area Racing will take place in the Solent on “round the cans” style courses using fixed navigational or
racing marks or specially laid inflatable marks as required.
9. Race Schedule Wednesday 26th May: Skipper Briefing via Online Platform.
Saturday 29th May: First race at 1030 in the central Solent, followed by further races.
Sunday 30th May: First race at 1030 in the central Solent, followed by further race(s) for Open Sports
Classes only.
Prize Giving target time is 1600.
10. Entries Entries, with payment, shall be made to X-Yachts (GB) Ltd. as in NoR1 above. Closing date for entries
is Monday 24th May 2021.
Entry fee for boats up to 40’: £195 for members of the X-Yachts Owner’s Association, or £245 for
non-members who automatically become members for the year.
Entry fee for boats over 40’: £215 for members of the X-Yachts Owner’s Association, or £265 for non-
members who automatically become members for the year.
The Entry Fee includes 4 x BBQ Tickets for Saturday evening (see Entry Form for details).
11. Sailing Sailing instructions will be posted on the official notice board available from Monday 24th May at
Instructions www.royalsouthern.co.uk. They may also be posted on www.x-yachtsgb.com and sent via email.
12. Inspection Spot checks of safety equipment may be carried out during the event.
13. Scoring IRC Ratings will be used for the Open Sports Classes.
The X-Yachts Rating System will be used for the Open Family Class, except for Pursuit Race when an
individual start time for each boat will be set by the Race Committee. They will be defined in the Sis.
The Low Point scoring system of RRS Appendix A will be used. A boat’s series score will be the total
of her race scores with no discard. One race is required to be completed to constitute a series.
14. Prizes Prized to be awarded to the Open Family and Open Sports Classes.
The X-Yachts Solent Cup will be awarded on merit by X-Yachts (GB) Ltd. in consultation with the Royal
Southern Yacht Club.
15. Risk Rule 4 of the Racing Rules of Sailing states: “The responsibility for a boat’s decision to participate in a
Statement race or to continue racing is hers alone”.
Sailing is by its nature an unpredictable sport and therefore inherently involves an element of risk.
By taking part in the event, each competitor agrees and acknowledges that:
(a) They are aware of the inherent element of risk involved in the sport and accept
responsibility for the exposure of themselves, their crew and their boat to such inherent risk
whilst taking part in the event;
(b) They are responsible for the safety of themselves, their crew, their boat and their property
whether afloat or ashore;
(c) They accept responsibility for any injury, damage or loss to the extent caused by their own
actions or omissions;
(d) Their boat is in good order, equipped to sail in the event and they are fit to participate;(e) The provision of a race management team, patrol boats if any, and other officials and
volunteers by the event organiser does not relieve them of their own responsibilities;
(f) The provision of a patrol boat cover if any, is limited to such assistance, particularly in
extreme weather conditions, as can practically be provided in the circumstances;
(g) It is their responsibility to familiarise themselves with any risks specific to this venue or this
event drawn to their attention in any rules or information produced for the venue or event
and to attend any safety briefing held for the event;
(h) They are responsible for ensuring that their boat is equipped and seaworthy so as to be able
to face extremes of weather; that there is crew sufficient in number, experience and fitness
to withstand such weather; and that the safety equipment is properly maintained, stowed
and in date and is familiar to the crew; and
(i) Their boat is adequately insured, with cover of at least £3 million against third party claims .
16. Personal The personal information that owners, charterers, competitors, and others provide to the organizing
Information authority will be used to facilitate their participation in the event. If they have agreed to be bound by
the Racing Rules of Sailing and the other rules that govern the event (the rules), the legal basis for
processing that personal information is contract. If they are not bound by the rules, the legal basis
for processing that personal information is legitimate interest. Their personal information will be
stored and used in accordance with the organizing authority’s privacy policy. When required by the
rules, personal information may be shared with the RYA and / or World Sailing. The results of the
event and the outcome of any hearing or appeal may be published.
Supplementary Information:
Berthing The Prince Philip Yacht Haven at the Royal Southern YC has walk-ashore berths to accommodate
competitors visiting Hamble (see Entry Form). Boats should specify which dates for which berthing
will be required on the Entry Form. Should the Yacht Haven become full, a special arrangement has
been made with MDL, Port Hamble. Boats unfamiliar with the Yacht Haven should contact the Royal
Southern bosun as they come up the river for guidance and / or assistance: 07900 872 461.
