St. Charles Borromeo & Message from the Pastor St. Peter the Apostle Central Parish Office THE LORD UPHOLDS MY LIFE 810 Pearl Street | Chippewa Falls, WI 54729 “If anyone wishes to be first, he shall be the last of 715.723.4088 all and the servant of all.” With these words in today’s Gospel, Jesus teaches his disciples about true great- OFFICE HOURS: ness. This teaching appropriately complements the M-TH 9 AM-4 PM, F 9:30 AM-1:00 PM teaching of the Apostle James the Less in today’s Rev. Monsignor Closed Holidays & Holy Days Second Reading: “Where jealousy and selfish Michael J. Gorman PASTOR ambition exist, there is disorder and every foul Rev. Msgr. Michael J. Gorman | x108 practice.” We Christians are to be Christ-like in setting aside selfishness pastor@stcharles-cf.com for the good of others. The good of the Church and, indeed, of all of humanity depends on selflessness and a disregard for worldly gain at ASSOCIATE PASTOR the expense of others. Rev. Ethan J. Hokamp | x105 The value that Saint James upholds in today’s Second Reading is associate@stcharles-cf.com “righteousness,” which is the “fruit of peace.” The ability to make peace is a manifestation of “wisdom from above.” This is wisdom that comes from DEACON God. It is not an earthbound way of thinking, but it is God-like: “pure, then Daniel J. Rider | C: 715.215.0102 peaceable, gentle, compliant, full of mercy and good fruits, without jakobstad@juno.com inconstancy or insincerity.” Recall that in last Sunday’s Gospel Peter was rebuked by Jesus for “thinking not as God does, but as human beings do.” ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT It would seem that all the disciples were thinking in this way in today’s Cathy Greenseth | x100 Gospel. They were interested in status rather than righteousness. Instead centraloffice@stcharles-cf.com Jesus takes a child—a person with no social status—and identifies FINANCE OFFICER himself with the child. Indeed Jesus’ earthly life will end as a person with Janet Wolfe | x104 no legal status, a criminal. There could not have been a nicer day for threshing than this year’s finance@stcharles-cf.com Labor Day. I was happy that so many people came down from our two DIRECTOR OF SACRED MUSIC parishes, including Father Hokamp. The crowd was a bit smaller this year Shawn Muench | x103 and I heard from a number of regulars about last-minute conflicts that musicdirector@stcharles-cf.com meant they couldn’t attend. The oats themselves were lightweight, which caused the only problem—they would not trip the weigher soon enough, FAITH FORMATION COORDINATOR so that caused a plug-up. Once we got that cleaned out and adjusted the Greg Gilbertson | x102 weight, the rest of the day went off without a hitch. We ended up with 150 cre@stcharles-cf.com bushels of oats by volume and a nice load of straw. Thanks to all who came and helped, and to all who just enjoyed watching. There are some Catholic Schools pictures on the St. Charles Facebook page. This third Sunday of September is Catechetical Sunday. We are blessing and commissioning the catechists from both parishes at the ST. PETER CATHOLIC SCHOOL, TILDEN 10:30 Mass. Thanks to all who take up this vital ministry of helping our GRADES 1-8 | 715.288.6250 young people to understand and appreciate better the mysteries of our www.stpeterschooltilden.com faith.
